Re: Root Permission denied

Hello hmoisand Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I have the same problem but I can still bring up a root gui from terminal by adding gui to the end. For example, if I want usm I su to root (in terminal) then type in usmgui and I get the gui for usm. Same with porteus-settings-centre gui (which needs t...

Re: Do you use an email client?

I actually have both but I use Thunderbird 99% of the time so I voted "Local email client"
(from a different distro installed to hard drive)

Re: Root Permission denied

1.0 Did you used capital characters instead of small characters? Did you check the md5sum? Did you used persistence with the save= cheatcode in the syslinux menu entry? Try the always fresh option which should provide a virgin setup. And tell us if the root password works. 2.0 Go into the /boot/sys...

Re: No Audio

Hello M1kep
Thought of something else if you still have no sound from speakers , do you hear anything from a set of headphones ? (maybe still plugged in ? been there, done that) Not sure how to check to see if your output is going to headphones or line out, have had that problem before elsewhere.

Re: Root Permission denied

Just took a moment to try. No problems here. Whatever wants root passwd works just fine. Somehow I knew you was going to say that. You haven't changed the default, have you? Well Yeah... . I don't leave any password as default when it's listed next to the login in. (my minimum password is 14 charac...

Re: No Audio

Hello M1kep Have you by chance looked through the Porteus Settings Centre > Sound Settings ? Normally I run "alsaconf" but it doesn't seem to be installed on my LXDE version. Also you can right click on the sound icon and the "Volume Control" settings to make changes, can't say if it works same in X...

Re: Root Permission denied

Thanks for the offer phhpro.
That would be anything from the start menu > System tools, that needs root password.
As it stands it's nothing that will keep me from using Porteus.

Re: Root Permission denied

Thanks phhpro, didn't work either. I'll probably just keep doing it from root lxterminal. I really want nothing to do with sudo, whether they "fixed it" or not. Never needed it before, see no need for it now. If I was going to use Porteus all the time instead of casually like I do right now then I'd...

Just did it, nothing changed.
Thanks though.

Re: How to delete files? Files with spaces in their names.

Hello Ed_P
New to Porteus but, Any chance you would need to do it from root ? Maybe rename and leave off the file extension and then use the shred command ?
I'm bad at leaving spaces where they don't belong but haven't had your problem yet. I need to stop doing that I guess.

Root Permission denied

Hello to all I'm running 3.01 with LXDE on a USB drive. I have the same problem as szaboa does Here Can access usm, gufw, p-s-c, or any other that needs to be run as root as long as I su to root in lxterminal. Didn't notice any real solution in the "szaboa" post. Can keep doing it this way if the ot...

Greetings to all

Greetings to all. Very nice little distro this Porteus. 8) Little bit of a learning curve for me, but what aint ? :D I will say this, This thing is fast , boots up from my 16gig usb on my non-spectacular box (AMD Sempron , 4gigs mem) in 25-30 seconds, faster than my hard drive distro (50-60 seconds)...
