Re: need audacity, but usm looks broken, actually

Thanks. Will alter the tag file search. Are there any files in /tmp that may be causing this result? Any files with the string 'tag'? TBO I had forgotten about this tagfile search. Yes indeed there were. (Unfortunately, after I'd composed a post this morning I deleted them, and I've discovered this...

Re: need audacity, but usm looks broken, actually

awk: fatal: cannot open file `/vercheck.txt' for reading (No such file or directory) This is the problem. Something in your changes is making USM not see the variable $CONFDIR. This path should be /etc/usm/vercheck.txt. Without seeing your changes file I am unable to offer any further advice. I've ...

Re: need audacity, but usm looks broken, actually

I finally found some time to work on this problem, and I've got some results! Are you using any changes= cheatcodes? If so try booting into 'Always fresh' mode and see if it works. Yeah, I use changes=/porteus/porteus. Once I booted into 'Always fresh' I confirmed that "usm -u all" works just fine. ...

Re: need audacity, but usm looks broken, actually

Please try using the package manager. It pulls packages from across 5 different slackware repositories. Open a terminal and elevate to root: su (password is toor) usm -g audacity Thank you for bringing up usm. If I hadn't usually been successful with building from source or converting packages I fo...

[solved] Re: need audacity, but usm looks broken, actually

I've been trying to install audacity today, but been frustrated in each of my diverse attempts. Apparently I'm missing a low-level audio library, but it's not at all clear what I need to install to provide it. Most recently I downloaded the package from http://porteus-apps.org/slackware/slackware64-...

[solved] Re: how to install certs for use with wget?

How does an SSL certificate make downloading a slackware package (from the same domain name) any more secure? I assume you plan on installing the packages you download onto your system? You are worrying about the wrong thing in this scenario. A certificate will not make an iota of difference. The s...

[solved] how to install certs for use with wget?

I've been interested in working through LFS (Linux From Scratch), so I attempted to download its list of recommended packages the other day. Eight packages failed to download. I've learned these downloads failed because wget did not have the appropriate certificates for secure http with their server...

Re: flash crashing in Firefox, new Porteus 3

i think it's flash taking advantage of the VDPAU acceleration which does not work reliably for the nouveau driver. VDPAU should work well with nVidia proprietary. could anyone who is experiencing crashes do a right mouse click on youtube video -> click on 'stats for nerds' -> check if you have 'har...

Re: flash crashing in Firefox, new Porteus 3

So you suspect the nouveau driver? That's interesting, considering one other thing I changed last weekend besides my Porteus version was my graphics driver. I'll switch back to nVidia now; I'll report whether flash was any more stable tomorrow.

Re: flash crashing in Firefox, new Porteus 3

lspci reports my card as "NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [GeForce GT 540M] (rev a1)". My X.org version is "X Server 1.14.5". [solved] flash crashing in Firefox, new Porteus 3

Since installing Porteus 3.0 last weekend I've observed that flash in Firefox will crash more often than not. While I can still watch videos or check the weather report, I've observed that any flash will eventually crash after switching to another tab. Of course Firefox has also, frequently, become ...
