Re: Kernel Panic on new install

Hi Brokenman, MD5 sums match. Tried re-install on Kingston 4b and Toshiba 8Gb sticks. Toshiba would not boot. Kingston boots to menu then shows message. As screen was locked I had to shoot screen with external camera but I do not have access to upload files. Anyway the message was a bunch of hex num...

Re: Kernel Panic on new install

Thanks for prompt reply. Both files were from the latest ISO and are dated 24/12/16 10:11;19.
Is there any solution?

Kernel Panic on new install

I installed 3.2 with Cinnamon to a USB stick, no problems. When trying to boot from USB I get a "Kernel Panic - Not Syncing" it then tries and fails again and hangs up. I tried booting into Plop but that just rebooted the machine. I have a newish Toshiba Satellite pro with Intel graphics 1366 x 768,...

Re: Big Thanks[SOLVED]

Unfortunately I do not have a website or a blog; I'm not much into social media. My only published reviews are in the Full Circle magazine but they will only publish Ubuntu based version reviews. Distrowatch reviewed V3.0.1 last September, Linux User reviewed V2.0. To my mind they missed the point i...

Re: Big Thanks[SOLVED]

Hi Rava, I have checked the reviews in DistroWatch and Linux User and they cover it very well. I cannot really add anything. The main point I would like to empasise is the ease of installation and speed of use. I use it on a 4Gb USB stick for portability but I also have just installed it on a spare ...

Re: Big Thanks

Hi Francois, In due course I will review but I am still checking out the features. I have some questions but I will attempt to find the answers before bothering the forum. eg Why are all my partitions on all drives mounted at boot, even though I configure PcMan not to mount? I have already found out...

Big Thanks[SOLVED]

I've just installed V3.1 LXqt on a 4gb USB stick. The whole process was error free and everything worked as it should. I test and review a lot of distros and I cannot say this about very many of them.
A great thanks to the whole team!

Re: Clock won't keep setting after reboot(Solved)

Thanks brokenman, fanthom actually gave me the solution "edit /boot/syslinux/porteus.cfg to 'Australia/Melbourne utc' " but your answer made it possible for me to pinpoint the problem. My /etc/localtime has never been a problem but I was unaware of /etc/hardwareclock and /etc/rc.d/rc.s so here is wh...

Re: First Impressions[SOLVED]

Thanks fanthom, Adding the utc cheat code worked perfectly for setting the time. I'm not too worried about the sound but if, like me, you like to solve problems then I have created a psinfo file. How do I upload it? I have successfully created a new user. I could probably have achieved the same resu...

Re: Clock won't keep setting after reboot(Solved)

I'm not sure why this is marked as solved. I have V3.01 with RazorQt. During the build I set the options to "my system clock is set to local time" and the timezone to Melbourne/Australia (UTC + 10). The file /etc/localtime contains the correct code "TZif2" and I also copied this to /rootcopy/etc as ...

First Impressions[SOLVED]

I use Linux Mint but wanted a portable system on a USB stick for maintenance on other computers. So I only needed some tools like GParted. I was really impressed with the Porteus download process, selecting your software, language etc before downloading. The download was very small and fast. Using t...
