Re: Weather plasmoids

Re: Weather plasmoids
well that was an adventure  there's no weather plasmoid in the kde that comes in the porteus download, and the only one i saw listed in the packages was wmweather for windowmaker, but i expanded my search and just looked for plasma/plasmoids etc and found kde-plasma-addons so i installed it, an...

Re: USM bug reports
@brokenman you probably find this before you even see this post but i decided to try usmgui from terminal, and got this one more tiny nugget of info on the issue: Couldn't exec /tmp/usm/xine-ui-0.99.7: Permission denied (downloading xine and specified that it should make a subfolder, the above is th...

Re: USM bug reports
running usm as installed with 3.01, it has a couple of quirks i've found i thought i might mention. one, if i am running it from guest account, which means i had to give the root pass, then when it has downloaded the packages and asks me if i want to open the folder, if i click yes, nothing happens,...

Re: KDE ignoring/overriding my xorg.conf
i fell asleep before i could explore it much but i think he may have put his finger on it with the kscreen service. i went to a console and disabled it by editing its desktop file in /usr/share/kde stuff and my logins kept the sizes i wanted. now if i can dig a little and find out more about kscreen...

Re: KDE ignoring/overriding my xorg.conf
don't misunderstand, i already know how to set the resolutions on a per user basis, either through the kde GUI way or by an xrandr script. and i know that with a little trial and error i could find some place in the startup scripts that get kde up and running, i could put an xrandr command so any us...

Re: KDE ignoring/overriding my xorg.conf
i'm not using proprietary. i know what's happening, i just don't know where it is happening. either xrandr or krandrtray is getting called after the greeter accepts my user login (or after autologin) , and because i don't have a saved setting it is using the best/highest resolution it can use, inste...

[SOLVED] KDE ignoring/overriding my xorg.conf
hi everyone i have xorg.conf placed in both of /etc/X11 and /usr/share/X11 in an attempt to make a default display resolution that applies to all users, but KDE is somewhere overriding that and setting what it thinks i would like to have i have as yet NOT used any desktop utilities to set any resolu...

Re: /home/guest/.kde4/share/config/knotifyrc not writable
i had this happen when i experimented with moving my /changes folder to a different partition. i used root login to do it and i think that made some of the resulting files get inherited by root.

Re: USM Unified Slackware Package Manager
well i'm using kde anyway not lxde and yes at this point i'm just playing with things, i dont have that much of importance to be bothered much about clean start, and i've anyway managed to hose my install with something i did unrelated to usm, in attempting to make a module of an application work th...

Re: What do you use porteus for?
i'd like to see this topic come alive again. i'd be interested to see how the answers evolve as Porteus evolves, and i believe there may be some value toward the advancement of Porteus and some inspiration for its growth if people share in this and similar discussions about what they have done, and ...

Re: USM Unified Slackware Package Manager
i am, and a 5 minutely cron dump-session. shall i try without that cheatcode? i'm new to porteus, very new, but i'd appreciate any info about these things that can be given so i learn not just what to do or not but the reasons. :) edited to add, i've now seen the discussion in the USM bugs thread, t...
