Yeah, sorry about that. We Mediterraneans tend to be foul-mouthed. Especially when we're pissed! :D

Re: The future of Porteus and HATERS

I just stumbled upon this thread after a few months without checking the forum and I am sincerely stunned with the initial reaction brokenman got with his quasi-announcement on base-switching. That was MEAN! WHAT THE H·E·L·L IS WRONG WITH YOU, PEOPLE??!!! I'm starting to think that those who claim t...

Re: Setting up login password ineffective

Try the good old Linux/Unix way.
(I assume you are able to start your session as root).

Open a terminal and type the following:

Code: Select all

passwd
Then hit enter. It'll ask for a new password. Twice. You won't be able to see what you're typing, so be sure to do it correctly.

There you go. :)

Re: USM update breaks it?

Sorry about the delay. I just tried it again. Architecture is i486 (I want maximum compatibility in my portable system). Ran Porteus in fresh mode, updated USM and then all the databases. Searched for Inkscape and chose the Salix repo. It found the following dependencies: -aspell-0.60.6 -enchant-1.6...

Kega Fusion module for Porteus 3.0 (32-bit)

And yet another Sega hardware emulator! :D
Kega Fusion is, unfortunately, not open source, but it's the emulator of choice for those who value emulation accuracy.

Here it is:

Re: Problem running on large Pendrive, system is too slow

The only time my system ran really slow was when I formatted the drive as ext2. I know it is theoretically better because of ext2's lack of journaling, which means less wear on the USB device, and that's why I decided to give it a try. Bad, bad idea. Not only it ran slower; I also got a corrupted sy...

Gens-GS emulator module for Porteus 3.0 (i486)

Gens/Gs. Sega MegaDrive/Genesis emulator for Porteus 3.0 32-bit. Here it is: http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/454212/gens-gs_r7_i386.xzm I recommend NOT to use the Slackware package they offer at Sega Retro. Didn't render icons and got clunky scrolling, among other weird behaviors. I used the...

Re: USM update breaks it?

Update your USM to 3.2.1. If the problem persists let me know and I can manually add the missed dependency.
It does indeed persist. Tried it in "Always Fresh" mode. Updated USM and all databases.

Re: LXQT instead of LXDE?

The differences in memory usage that I see on your link are minimal. 100MB is nothing these days Oh, please don't get me wrong; I don't think the difference is significant at all. But it's certainly a turning point as LXDE will not be the lightest desktop environment anymore. PCMan himself admits t...

LXQT instead of LXDE?

I'm not sure if this is the right section to start a thread about this, so please feel free to move it if needed. Last week I read an announcement by Brokenman according to which LXDE would be replaced by LXQT in the next Porteus release (3.1). Although I've felt curious about LXQT since I first rea...

Re: Porteus changing distro

I can adapt to everything. Slackware as a base is just fine. I am not an expert nor a newbie. I'm a Linux user since 2007, and I've regularly used Ubuntu, Debian, Knoppix and Linux Mint (both Ubuntu and Debian-based). Currently I'm running the latest Linux Mint LTS with Xfce on my laptop, so obvious...

Re: USM update breaks it?

Then please accept my apologies. I assumed it simply resolved dependencies from a database. I understand that, if I ever, for some reason, wanted to download the packages required to create a new module for, say, GIMP, I'd have to deactivate my GIMP module before running USM, right? As an informativ...

Re: USM update breaks it?

Tried it, but doesn't seem to work the way it did. It works selectively now. Does't resolve dependencies for Gimp, Inkscape, Avidemux or Audacity, all of which had plenty in the previous USM version. It does find dependencies for VLC and Slapt-get, though. It just occurred to me that maybe it only r...

Re: USM bug reports

Hi. I created a new thread for my problem, but I just realized this is the right place for it. Sorry about the inconvenience. I'll paste my original post below. Seems to be a bug in USM 3.1.2. Hi, all. I've been a happy Porteus 3.0 user for around 2 months now. I'm currently using the LXDE version, ...
