Wrong screen orientation in 2-in-1 laptop

Thanks Donald. I'll try that when my wife's not using the laptop.

Wrong screen orientation in 2-in-1 laptop

Hi, I have tried to get Porteus 3.2.2 running on my wife's Asus T101HA 2-in-1 laptop - although Windows 10 runs OK on it, it only has 2GB of memory and a 32GB eMMC drive so Porteus looks like a good alternative. I had to use the NOMODESET cheatcode to get Porteus 3.2.2 x64 XFCE to boot properly - I ...

Re: Slow Porteus 3.2RC5 boot on SSD

Thanks for your suggestions guys. @burdi01 - I normally only use WiFi so I disabled IPV6 in the WiFi adapter configuration. (I did try the noipv6 cheat-code but it didn't seem work.) The boot time was no quicker. Out of curiosity, I disabled WiFi using the hardware switch and the boot time was even ...

Re: Slow Porteus 3.2RC5 boot on SSD

Thanks Brokenman. More than happy to do this. I have dumped the full log and uploaded it to http://pastebin.ca/3734144.

I'm afraid I'm still a Linux noob. I couldn't see anything obvious in the logs but then that's no surprise.

BTW, good work with RC5 - I love the look and feel of Cinnamon!

Slow Porteus 3.2RC5 boot on SSD

I have come across strange boot speed performance issue when booting Porteus 3.2 RC5 on an SSD. I'm not sure if it is a bug or not so forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong forum. My laptop is a dual boot Windows 10 and Porteus machine, using EasyBCD/NeoGrub for the dual boot. Windows is on a...

Re: Version 3.1 won't boot on HP Mini 1000

Hi,

The "nomodeset" cheatcode gets all versions booting into the GUI so I have run psinfo as requested. I have pasted the output to pastebin with a title "Porteus version 3.1 won't boot on HP Mini 1000 - PSInfo data".

Thanks for all the help so far.

Re: Version 3.1 won't boot on HP Mini 1000

Unfortunately, the Kiosk Wizard starts to run but cannot connect to the network. I've tried on my PC and 2 netbooks, both using the wired and WiFi connection options, but it fails. (I've downloaded the Kiosk ISO image twice and tried both from USB and CD with the same result.) So I can't try the deb...

Re: Version 3.1 won't boot on HP Mini 1000

Just a quick update. I downloaded Porteus Kiosk version 3.2 and it booted into the GUI normally. (It didn't recognise the netbook WiFi card but that's a common problem as it is a Broadcom card.)

So the boot problem is only with version 3.1 of standard Porteus but not with 3.0 or the Kiosk version.

Version 3.1 won't boot on HP Mini 1000

Hi, I have used the Mate version of Porteus 3.0 on my HP Mini 1000 netbook and it works fine. I decided to give version 3.1 a go but none of the versions I tried (Mate, XFCE and LXQt) will work. It gets past Phase I of the boot process but then the screen goes blank. (Its at the point in the process...

Re: Forensics and rescue

I often use a slightly outdated version of Parted Magic at work. It used to be free but isn't any more - which is why I'm stuck with a slightly old version! This version of Porteus should be a great alternative. I assume that it would include "badblocks" as well as the utilities listed in the other ...

Re: Firefox issue

No, I don't have any addons installed. I didn't think it was worth customising Firefox to any degree before I could get it working normally.

If I get time, I'll boot up on a different machine here at work. That should help identify if it is just an issue with my home network/WiFi.

Firefox issue

Hi everyone. I am currently using Porteus 3 Mate and downloaded a custom ISO with Chrome as the browser. Generally, I'm very impressed with the speed and usability of Porteus. I decided to try Firefox as well so downloaded the Firefox module and copied it into the modules folder. I do get both brows...
