Re: What Makes save.dat File Grow? There A "Prune" App For I
For me, the result of following that instruction was: -- no changes saved i guess you never meet required condition: While you are running a session with changes=EXIT, you can use the 'dump-session' command To clarify/expand what I posted earlier, here's the scenario file successfully created: /mnt...

Re: Only can boot with always fresh mode
I think there's an ongoing bug regarding save file creation. booted fat32 pendrive (first run) chose "graphical mode" menu entry boot msg bright yellow instructs "use porteus save file manager" ^---v launch Savefile manager and click "i want to create a new savefile" (create) Must choose a path by b...

Re: porteus: the perfect os, the pros and cons
I don't expect "perfect", just a solid base. Already posted regarding how I see/compare puppy and porteus (because someone posted to ask). I would not copy/paste that here. To gather material for your review (overview?), walk the subforums and take note of which recent (post v3 release) discussion t...

Re: porteus-apps.org
Do you intend to now redirect traffic from .tk domain and serve pages from the .org address instead? I was surprised (impressed) by how many ready-for-v3.0 modules you already had onhand when the realease was announced. Went there looking for bleachbit. As I recall, only a module for v2.1 was availa...

Re: Porteus on the net
To filter out press releases and other noise, I've used this google search query (along with filter date range: past month): -prepackaged -news -candidate -facts -overjoyed -standalone porteus linux -site:porteus.org -site:distrowatch.com -site:softpedia.com The "over a pint" podcast from http://lin...

Re: ?? I've lost a thread!!
Ed, it sounds like you should take your medication and go lay down  Your post reminded me that I've also lost track of a thread here. Someone asked about preferred programming languages nowadays... ...and the posts discussed CVS versioning (version control) and IDEs. As I recall, the OP menti...

For anyone looking for a GUI filefinder utility, check out "findwild"
http://www.kornelix.com/findwild.html
I haven't yet checked whether a findwild slackware package exists.

Re: Include fluxbox as download option?
terus, check out this thread: [Porteus-LXDE] UI-Productivity-SuperPack.Updated Jan 11,2014 http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=2883 I'm a fluxbox fan, but I expect modifying the the autobuilder to accommodate a "another window manager/DE" would not be accomplished easily. Also, who among t...

Re: What Makes save.dat File Grow? There A "Prune" App For I
@Ed, re: "cleanup" fanthom was quoting my post, and I was speaking hypothetically (vs literally referring to an existing "cleanup" command) we have something along these lines already: changes=EXIT: cheatcode plus edit /etc/changes-exit.conf Sigh. We're in a suggestions thread. "cheatcode plus edit ...

Re: How to open the character map in porteus?
In general, we're probably expected to create a keybind to call up the charmap.

Re: What Makes save.dat File Grow? There A "Prune" App For I
(mounting and) pruning an already existing savefile would be the wrong approach, eh. Building a list of ignored/excluded paths and performing (scripted) housecleaning prior to updating the savefile, is a good approach... but deciding what to exclude or not, by default, is a tough call. Each user pro...

Re: Porteus 3.0 final feedback
Quoting a discussion thread from last year which grew to 6 pages, turned ugly, and got locked: If you start porteus the first time from a FAT-fs you get a bright-yellow-message at bootup: "A Windows filesystem (FAT,NTFS) or other non-posix compatible filesystem has been detected on /porteus.Your cha...

Re: Save File Issues
Having chosen xfs format for my savefile.dat container (b/c ext2 isn't, I've just discovered a "gotcha": cannot SHRINK the size of an existing xfs filesystem http://xfs.org/index.php/XFS_FAQ#Q:_Is_there_a_way_to_make_a_XFS_filesystem_larger_or_smaller.3F Choosing xfs for savefile.dat and specifying ...

Re: search all filenames
Under debian, the package management mechanism includes a hook to call updatedb. In Porteus, without such a hook... as is, user will need to remember to call updatedb manually. Also, for use within a live session context, might be advisable to --exclude several paths within updatedb.conf (if so, the...
