Re: How can I set up Porteus as a fully wireless router?

A few of replies. 1 - yes smartphones can do it but I don't have an international data package. They can also use bluetooth and bridge it to WiFi and this is my backup plan. 2 - the wl driver does not work with channels 12 and 13. It seems a popular issue. It looks like the b43 drivers are the way t...

Re: How can I set up Porteus as a fully wireless router?

Two cards is not a problem. There is one built in and I have a USB WiFi dongle. I can probably handle iptables if I can work out the auto-starting in Porteus. If the worst comes to the worst I can dump my current server's and base things on it. I may be able to copy DHCP server configs but I was hop...

Re: How can I set up Porteus as a fully wireless router?

Only if it can act as a router so the kids (and my) connection appear as one device. Is that possible with a repeater? I thought they just passed the connections through.

How can I set up Porteus as a fully wireless router?

I've just booked a summer holiday to a place which allows one party a single wireless connection and this is not going to keep my kids happy. I can set up an Android device to share its bluetooth connection but its range is limited (and my device consumes power quicker than I can charge it). I was h...

Re: Help needed with f2fs partitions

That would be good. I had got to an interim solution where I could back up all the data with Porteus then delete and recreate the partition with GParted (either on its own or in Ubuntu Live USB - I can't remember which) but in playing around I've messed up my back up installation. I now need to sort...

Re: Help needed with f2fs partitions

Ah, so it does not auto-mount. I've managed to mount it and pull the data off. I cannot for the life of me work out how to install f2fs-tools. I've tried the package manager. I've tried a package from slackbuilds.ord but hit an issue "autoreconf: command not found". I am used to the RHEL way of doin...

Help needed with f2fs partitions

Hi, I need to resize an f2fs partition (which is impossible as resizing is not supported by the file system) but I'm struggling with any distro to find the tools. In order to resize it I was going to tar up everything on it, delete the partition, create a new partition of the required size then unta...

Re: Problems connecting to Samba share

I did not have a problem using the mount.cifs command and unfortunately adding the symlink did nothing to help with the Add a Network Folder wizard.

Do you want me to still try installing a full version of samba?

Re: Connect to Windows Shares?

Plonker alert. Everything appears to be working now with smb:// and mount.cifs (and mount -t cifs ....). In my test here I forgot to allow blank passwords (an extra setting in Win7). The mount.cifs command with no user and password on the command line prompts for a password but <enter> is accepted. ...

Connect to Windows Shares?

Last weekend I was replacing an antique PC with a brand new Win7 laptop. What I was going to do was copy the whole old PC to a folder on the new one using Porteus. The idea of using Porteus is that Windows locks some of its own files and they don't then copy. The target machine was a Win7 laptop. On...

The bug still exists in 1.1 32-bit.
