Re: Porteus-AUR: Building Porteus modules w/ Arch build scri

Glad you are finding it useful! :D I have admittedly not used this on Porteus in awhile (someone made a Porteus-ized verison of Debian and I have been kinda hooked on that), although this does work on other OSs besides Porteus! When it is a little more put together I plan to call it "Architect" The ...

Re: Porteus changing distro

@ponce
Wow, I didn't even know! Thanks for the link =)

@brokenman
It's very cool, even in these early stages! Kinda crazy, it can scale from a single app+dependencies all the way up to a full guest os, just like BSD jails, which use the host's kernel

Re: Porteus changing distro

I think going with Debian as a base system would be a really good move for Porteus. It's stable, lean, and super widely tested, and of course has a very large amount of software ready to install. It is also one of the most deployed server distributions, and there are a number of good add-on repos fo...

Re: Porteus-AUR: Building Porteus modules w/ Arch build scri

@tome Good idea! I'll do that. I've found a thing (not on github yet) that downloads the entire list of all Arch & AUR package name, versions, and descriptions, and outputs to stdout, so that will be easy @phhpro Thats the idea! More realistically, it will probably be a hack that uses Porteus/Slack ...

How to fix when some existing libs aren't found

I thought I'd mention this in case it helps someone: sometimes when building packages from Arch, a lib that exists on your system might occasionally not get picked up during the compile process. I've done a few things to help this situation: -running ldconfig as root. Don't know why, but every once ...

Re: Porteus-AUR: Building Porteus modules w/ Arch build scri

@francois Glad you dig it! It's neato, huh? 8) In my experience, even having to manually track down all the dependencies and install many of them from Arch, it's been much easier for me to get the latest version of lots of weird software running issue-free on Porteus this way than going for the pure...

Re: Porteus-AUR: Building Porteus modules w/ Arch build scri

Sorry for the confusion. This is in the very beginning stage and right now the only way it works is by completely disabling dependency resolution (as this currently can only check for binary dependencies installed from Arch's package manager, which we do not use). Just as with Slackbuilds, you have ...

Re: Porteus-AUR: Building Porteus modules w/ Arch build scri

@phhpro I just tried libarchive myself and got the same result. Not super surprising though, since libarchive is kind of a core library that depends on a few other core libraries..my guess is the version of libarchive that Arch uses depends on some libs or minimum versions of libs that don't exist o...

Re: Porteus-AUR: Building Porteus modules w/ Arch build scri

I'm glad this has stirred some interest! =D These are good concerns and good things to be talking about, I'll share a little more of my experience. The binaries and instructions I posted are just the first way I tried that has worked consistently, but I'm hoping for this just to be a starting point ...

Porteus-AUR: Building Porteus modules w/ Arch build scripts!

I have been doing this for awhile on my own, but finally put it together and am excited to finally share =D After some trial and error, I've come up with a very easy and clean way to build true Porteus packages from the vast build script repositories of Arch Linux and the AUR. I have put everything ...

changes=/path/ is not working

3.0rc1 seems to be ignoring my changes=/porteus/ cheatcode. I am dual booting between Porteus 2.1 and 3.0rc1, and by default it was loading the changes from Porteus 2.1 on boot. Here's my layout: sda1 Porteus 2.1 (changes=/porteus/) sda4 Porteus 3.0 (changes=/porteus/) I tried adding a cheatcode so ...

Readline error

I was getting some errors compiling against libreadline. Did some googling and it appears this has to do with readline being compiled without ncurses..or something like that? Anyhow, I did $ ld /usr/lib64/libreadline.so and got this ld: warning: cannot find entry symbol _start; not setting start add...

Re: Hydrogen Drum Machine 0.9.6 beta 3

@fathom Apologies, I am retracing my steps and a made a boo boo, it is Q XmlSchema, not QtXmlSchema, and the location in the Slackware package I linked is /usr/lib64/qt/include/QtXmlPatterns/, not /usr include (it also depends on QXmlNamePool which is in the same Slackware package but does not exist...

[SOLVED] lupdate is missing from QT / devel module

Ah, thank you for that!. Somehow I missed the fact that there was a separate qt package in Porteus other than the QT that comes with Razor. I think I missed it because in PPM, the short description of the qt-4 module when it comes up in the search is wrong - the short description for razor-qt is lis...

lupdate is missing from QT / devel module

There may be something I am missing here, but I think the executable "lupdate" is missing from the qt module or the devel module, not sure which is more appropriate. I believe it is part of the QT Linguist package in other distros

(I'm compiling Qtractor DAW)
