Re: Feedback for "Why porteus.org was suspended?" announceme

As regards charging for a download, in essence I don't have a problem with it but I can see many that might, especially from third world countries where there are draconian exchange laws and also many people might not have bank accounts and/or credit cards. Might be a bit of a hard concept to belie...

How to configure wifi in Porteus text mode?

I managed to figure out how to configure and automatically connect to wifi from a debian netinstall, but Porteus is so different that I'm at a loss where to start :unknown: I downloaded the text mode version of porteus--just 50 mb! So I wanna play around with that for a while, but for that to happen...

Obmenu won't start

So I'm trying to make Porteus LXDE slightly Crunchbang-ish ( http://celettu.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/crunchbanglive.jpg ) since LXDE uses Openbox as a WM. and to do that I need to install obconf and obmenu...obconf installed and ran fine, obmenu is installed and activated but not only does it not...

Re: Need some help with a wifi issue

@fanthom: added it, but no effect before or after reboot @brokenman 100% sure I got the right password, so it could be the wifi driver (though debian w/ nonfree firmware detects it)...I don't really understand the third reason you gave. Is there anything I can do if it "expected in HEX and given in ...

Need some help with a wifi issue (SOLVED! thank you)

I've installed Porteus LXDE on my netbook, but when I try to connect to the wifi it just keeps asking for the password over and over again. Any idea where I could start troubleshooting? My wifi card is realtek...rtl8188ce according to some linux command I ran a long time ago when I was having other ...

Re: LXDE-KDE-Razor The future

I always liked openbox as well. I had a lot of fun on it in crunchbang. :D Cheers All! yeah, crunchbang is THE openbox distro I really appreciate distros that give some TLC to WMs even though WM users are usually minimalists who are profecient technically and like to set things up manually because ...

Re: usability tip for you guys

personally I thought it was less "RTFM" and more "KRTTID" (kindly refer to the included documentation ;)) you're right, though, it is easy to make a mistake even if they did read. What if something drops on the keyboard during that phase? (it's happened...sign that I should clear out my desk :)) any...

Re: usability tip for you guys

I wish i was joking about my machine not booting. I can't wait for work tomorrow! This is the behaviour I've come to expect from you unix people, everything is unnecessarily dangerous, and one mistake can cost you your entire system. probably if you don't read the instructions, yeah. The font size ...

Re: Desktop environment: the best for the old boxes

Razor-QT is light, it doesn't have as many features but it does the job.

Although an openbox configured crunchbang-style will be the speediest, while still being easy to use :) LXDE too

Re: Black screen with blinking cursor after login...

Odd--my problem appeared when I tried to start Porteus with a CD. I did as Francois said, used another laptop to install Porteus on a usb and booted my netbook with it. Everything works! :Yahoo!: :Yahoo!: :Yahoo!: Don't think it was a faulty cd because I've used several brand new ones in the past......

Re: Black screen with blinking cursor after login...

Hi, I was hoping to be able to do it myself but I'm afraid it's beyond my newbie powers :sorry: I had porteus installed on a usb and booted into text mode. I followed your instructions lspci -knn > /mnt/usb cp /var/log/dmesg /mnt/usb startx ctrl-alt-f2 login cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log /mnt/usb However, ...

Black screen with blinking cursor after login (solved!)

This happened on the 32-bit editions of Porteus 2.1, Razor-QT and KDE versions--both downloaded from the links in the release announcement and created through the wizard Btw, my laptop is an Lenovo Ideapad s110, and I've never been able to install any version of Porteus on it :( Anyway, what happens...

Re: Poll: How many desktop environments do you use in Porteu

I cannot even describe how excited I am for these features. I think it fits really well with porteus' modularity, being able to make your own iso. Hamza, that's absolutely amazing! :Bravo: It reminds me of Slax, but iirc that option wasn't there after it was revived, instead there was a 200 mb iso l...
