Re: Porteus-v3.2rc4 bug reports

Hello again after some time .... in times past I reported that 3G modems were not functional in Porteus, and the problem was resolved with the addition of usb_modeswitch and perhaps some other magic dust. Alas I now find that with the MATE rc2 candidate while the preconditions for connection via NM ...

Re: Feedback and Bug Reports for Porteus v2.1 RC1

Today's silly post - I haven't d/led the RC. However I was lately running v2 Razorqt 32 bit in a live session. I found that as user I was unable to transfer a file from the desktop to a mounted USB stick, unless I used cp at the command line as root. Perhaps someone could verify this doesn't occur i...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC2

3G - Switched from root back to guest. NM was still showing ISP link for 3G but guest didn't seem able to use it, link would not activate, until the ISP was selected anew with the sequence of dialogues, ie country, provider etc. Still running session in which usb_modeswitch was activated. guest@port...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC2

3G issue again. Downloaded file you suggested and using gui made it xzm, then double-clicked to activate module. NetworkManager remained unresponsive, but after I logged out as guest and in again as root, mobile broadband was activated and I was able to connect to the ISP - so currently using 3G to ...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC2

3G modem continued "binary may be not enough. please try with full usb_modeswitch package converted to xzm as it contains udev rules and modem database." Sorry, any idea where I could find such a thing? Not sure I am clever enough to work it out, especially since this is nearly release time. I need ...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC2

Hi, 3G mania continues :-\/ I ran a live session of the rc2 KDE 64 bit and dropped in usb_modeswitch to /usr/sbin. No joy. Logged out as guest and in as root. Nada. Killed modem-manager and restarted it. Nix. Gave up. I see there is also usb_modeswitch_dispatcher. Not sure what this does exactly but...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC2

Thanks for response about 3G. I see the output on inserting modem with Crunchbang is the same as with Linpus, except for this line. Don't know whether this is significant. Will see what I can do about usb_modeswitch - haven't actually got an install but could drop it into a live session. Unclear abo...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC2

Additional to my last post, presently logged in via Linpus Lite. Here is some terminal output observed on connecting 3G modem now in use for internet connection. Some of it looks a bit odd, not sure why it is taking every ttyusb in sight. However it works. Think this is on a Fedora base. Hope this h...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC2

Hi there, Back to the 3G modem issue; I have just attached a 3G modem but Network Manager doesn't appear to acknowledge it. It's a ZTE (maker) device. Output from dmesg. [ 171.594074] usb 2-1: new high-speed USB device number 5 using ehci_hcd [ 171.714736] scsi5 : usb-storage 2-1:1.0 [ 172.717575] s...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC2

Have the KDE 64-bit RC2. Unless I am mistaken, this does not include usb_modeswitch. I think this means it will not be able to use 3g modems. This was mentioned in connection with RC1 and I believe it was said that usb_modeswitch would appear in RC2. Any particular reason why this hasn't happened? C...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC1

Returning to my previously reported problems with USB devices misbehaving, lately I put Tosh Satellite Pro s300 to sleep with USB mouse attached. When the machine resumed the mouse was not working. Tried dmesg in a terminal and saw some more about error -110. Switched the mouse to another port and i...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC1

Just a thought about screensavers: in the past I have encountered freezes where it seemed a particular screensaver just did not agree with the video driver. Workround was not to use that particular screensaver. In that instance however the system froze several times while leaving the offending saver...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC1

Had another look at the problem I experienced with Toshiba laptop and usb-attached mouse turning off - on further testing problem not seen. Maybe cosmic rays? Also tested 32-bit razor and KDE4 isos on a Compaq V6000 laptop with dual Turion TL-56 cpu and nvidia go6150 - no problems with booting and n...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC1

Referring back to my post earlier about losing touch with a USB connected mouse, at that time i thought this was connected with starting up a wifi connection. However I think that was a mistake on my part, incorrect association of events. But what does seem to be happening, if there are several devi...

Re: Feedback for Porteus version 2.0 RC1

About this forum - when I try to bring up the index, what shows up is a listing of the latest postings??? Some mistake here? It's kind of irritating. Anyway, real reason for posting. Just tried to connect with v2 rc1 64-bit CD. Boots OK on this Toshiba Satellite Pro S300. However when I connect via ...
