Porteus linux on the net or on the waves of the web

Anyhow just looked through this List of Linux distributions that run from RAM RAM needed only says 512 MB. I think that needs to bei changed to a from-to Form like they did with Independent. Does anyone have a quotable forum post that lists the toram needed RAM for every available Version for 4.0? T...

Porteus-v4.0 bug reports

I'm just a user and not a developer, so I don't care about the size of the module. What is the point of stripping down a module to the bone ;) Ed_P why did you omit the Part of the quote donald added in his reply? Your quote is like lying by obmission. (I hope I got the word right I mean "Auslassun...

Gimp-2.10.2 for Porteus 4.0

My gimp-2.8.6 version only had gimp, babl and gegl, and with only German locales it is only 8.88 MB (9314304 bytes) The 2.10.2 gimp seems to be quite the massive one, compared to the older version. I tried to slim it down, but to almost no avail. Does anyone know why that is? Will a minimal 2.12.0 v...

Testdisk aka photorec

A neat command ldd. I've never used it before. Especially done together with |grep "not found" :) Of course, my approach with the ln -s to another library version is a dirty hack, but alas, when it works as it should I am okay with that. Of course², some programs might complain that the target lib ...

Nice in mc is that it opens/explores archives.
Indeed. We should add exploring xzm archives to that abbility list.

HOWTO brief mc howto

mc ....... to start Midnight Commander (edit/copy/move/create/delete files) As personal request a short HOWTO mc. To me mc was always intuitive. AFAIK its build after the old SM-DOS Norton Commander. Just start it via mc or its editor as standalone with mcedit. The editor is neat cause it is support...

Didn't work for me. qphotorec: error while loading shared libraries: libntfs-3g.so.87: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Have you tried my hack in the first Post? You may have to adjust the target or source file name accordingly to whats in your System and what ldd tells you...

Testdisk aka photorec

I would like to request the most recent version of testdisk (also called photorec) for 4.0 Porteus x86-64 (XFCE) I tried creating 6.12, 6.13 and 6.14 versions using several packages as source, like testdisk_photorec-6.14-x86_6-slaxmax or testdisk-6.13-x86_64-1cf The error with testdisk_photorec-6.14...

Porteus linux on the net or on the waves of the web

Trying out ver 4.0 of the XFCE flavor, and am impressed with its speed, and selection of apps. Have not yet gotten into any major software additions outside of picking a browser (Palemoon), so will be honest that I can not really comment on the Slackware core implementaion, just the XFCE implementa...

Congrats..

I hope we stay at kernel 4.16.2
Sadly finale Version seems to be 4.16.3. I for now only tested the Xfce ISO but I presume the other DEs will all have the same kernel.
Will we get Nvidia drivers for that soon?
