I have both XFCE 3.0 and 3.1 frugally installed and I found the same problem: works on v. 3.0 but "connection failed" on v. 3.1.

In menu:

System/Porteus Settings Centre/Porteus changes/edit porteus.cfg

Good question, I was interested in that one too! (Grin)

Re: Mounting partitions (solved)

Please show me the output of: cat /etc/fstab Another option is to navigate to /mnt in thunar and just drag and drop the sda5 folder into the left pane under places. root@porteus:~# cat /etc/fstab # Do not edit this file as fstab is recreated automatically during every boot. # Please use /etc/rc.d/r...

Mounting partitions (SOLVED)

Thanks for the new Porteus release ! I have a PC with 3 partitions with Porteus XFCE 3.1 I just frugally installed to sda1. The only partition it mounts visibly is the third one, a data partition, sda6, and when trying to mount the others I get a message like this: mount: /dev/sda1 already mounted o...

Re: Porteus 3.1rc1 feedback

I second biotec's comment about lxde memory usage: even in comparison to xfce I see a difference on an old pc.
@biotec, thanks for the comment about using lxde from Porteus 3.01 on 3.1rc1!

Re: Porteus 3.1rc1 feedback

I have re downloaded the iso and Mate is very nice with Florence! Now I have another problem: the keyboard layout is only available in keyboard preferences for en, fr, it, German. I downloaded the iso with the builder and stipulated Spanish (es) for keyboard layout and also Spain in timezone. I have...

Re: Porteus 3.1rc1 feedback

Thank you very much for this release and the virtual keyboard in Mate. In your announcement post you list under
003-mate.xzm "Added florence virtual keyboard". The keyboard I have in Mate is Kvkbd!

Re: Wishlist for porteus 3.1

Thanks for the tip Slaxmax. I will investigate KDE on a newer computer. I was really thinking of a virtual keyboard for LXDE or XFCE as I usually use Porteus with frugal install to HD on a really old computer, it has 1200 MHz processor and 513300 kB RAM, and KDE I understand is resource-hungry. But ...

Re: Wishlist for porteus 3.1

A virtual keyboard would be much appreciated for a future Porteus (for the situation where a user is physically unable to use a normal keyboard but can "point and click" with a mouse).

Re: So Far So Good

Thanks Francois. I have a Porteus.swap of 1.0 GB on a free partition /mnt/sda5 but the OS is on /mnt/sda1. With the command free -m there is no swap so I type swapon /mnt/sda5 Porteus.swap and voilà it activates, not much trouble but would be nice for it to do it automatically.

Re: So Far So Good

Though I hardly know anything about Linux, I've been using Porteus since v2.0 on a very old (12 yrs) box. I'm dual booting with Win98SE !!! (which I hardly use) from an isloloop frugal install, I just keep Win for some programs on it. While I mostly only use it for going on line, Porteus has saved t...
