Latest 32 bit Porteus
Thanks for your recommendation jssouza, I downloaded Porteus-XFCE-v4.0-i586.iso from the UK Kent mirror site yesterday. The md5sum matched. Size is 273.4 MiB. I successfully made a bootable Porteus flash drive. However, the boot-splash screen states "Porteus-4.0 64bit". Also it doesn't load properly...

Re: [SOLVED] 30 miles from home and off the wall
Friends, Not quite a lost cause afterall. I have found the problem and am marking this thread [SOLVED]. Having been in Set-up dozens of times trying various setting, I had noticed under Memory there was a total of 1.25GB, with 4 modules, 3 of them 256MB and one 512MB. I remembered hearing to always ...

Re: 30 miles from home and off the wall
Thank you "brokenman" for those instructions, and yes, as has been claimed here by others, you are a genius, al biet a very humble genius, and that's even better ! Now the results after entering the "3 debug" flag after tabbing the boot screen of Porteus, using version 2 and version 3, both LXDE des...

Re: 30 miles from home and off the wall
Back to this old thing. I've been to the facility twice this week and will be going again tomorrow. The box is running Windows XP Professional and I was able to finally login to Windows. Yesterday I took a stack of Linux Live CD's and 2 Porteus flash drives. There is an interrupt exception somewhere...

Re: How to use an external USB Webcam
@jeff4892,
The application using the USB webcam should have a setting to choose from. Such as:
/dev/video0 (which should be the built-in camera)
or
/dev/video1 (which should be the USB camera).

Re: A simple FYI
Hello Porteus friends, Obviously this is not a popular thread, however, I thought I'd include a little more info, sorry for not including the 16.04 LTS Ubuntu stats from April of this year. But here is some current one day info concerning the new 16.04.01 LTS Upgrade for some popular Ubuntu flavors....

Re: Harley Hahn, A Very Smart Fella
@Jack,
I bought my used copy at a Linux Users Group meeting several years ago, forget what I paid. Just now checked Amazon and they have new and used copies for sale, $42 dollars US. Didn't see any mention of .pdf availability.

Harley Hahn, A Very Smart Fella
Friends, If you are new to Linux, as I seem to remain :-), check this out............ Several years ago I discovered "Harley Hahn", his website, and especially his book "Harley Hahn's Guide to Unix and Linux". This is kind of a "fall back to" book for me. He gives an excellent history of Unix and ta...
