Re: PXE boot nameserver on client
> yes - that's why all the traffic should go through Porteus working as PXE server then to the router. Interesting Idea. There is only 2 ways to solve this issue using your current layout: #1> DHCP From Router and then NAT the connection again out the second ethernet port. This would cause a double ...

Re: PXE boot nameserver on client
and I was obliged to place a symlink from nfs server "/srv/pxe/porteus" to "/tftboot/porteus31/porteus" where phisically reside my modules - and exported too - ... not a problem for a single porteus but make impossible (i think) to serve different flavour of the distro. Yeah, the exports are hard c...

Re: PXE boot nameserver on client
I'm not sure I follow. I am running DHCPD in Slackware 13.37 with TFTP to host my PXE Boot Environment. My machine is also the firewall/router for the network. I booted into PXE Porteus 3 and looked in /etc/resolv.conf and it seems to have the correct DNS Server. But my machine runs DNS as well so t...

Re: XBMC Gotham 13.1 for Porteus 3 - 32Bit - Test Build
Interesting.... I could create 32 bit and 64 bit ISO's. I'd have to rebuild the packages for 64 bit but that doesn't take to much effort. Porteus comes with a ISO Build script. But if I''m going to do all that, I might as well go with a light weight Desktop Manager with XBMC on Auto startup. Let me ...

XBMC Gotham 13.1 for Porteus 3 - 32Bit - Test Build
I considered building this for 64 Bit Porteus but I had the 32 bit version on my network. So now that I have Porteus setup as Boot from Network and it's configured with XBMC, this makes it ideal to run on any diskless machine while using your server to host the music and video files. The 32 bit vers...

Re: [SCRIPT] stxz2zxm (smart? txz converter)
I was going to make a comment about this in a new thread until I found this one. In practice the doinst shell scripts should be packed with the module. Create a folder /var/log/packages just like slackware that shows which packages are already installed. I know this sounds strange but hear me out: S...

Re: PXE Network Booting Configuration.
I found this regarding NFS Version 4 Exports: Kernel Configuration: > Options regarding AUFS appear under file systems in make menuconfig. Be sure to tune maximum number of branches and check "NFS-exportable AUFS". Also, they mentioned this: The crossmnt option is crucial for the process to succeed ...

Re: Unified Slackware Package Manager (Porteus Package Manag
I didn't do update all, I just updated the Slackware database. The others just dropped to a prompt when I tried to update them individually. I try the update all and post back. When I attempted to update USM directly, it said it was on the latest build. Then again I just built this ISO directly from...

Unified Slackware Package Manager (Porteus Package Manager)
I take it this program is a work in progress. I saw a test file in the program. I attempted to update the databases for the Slackware Repo but I wasn't able to search for anything after I updated it. I closed the program and opened it again, but it told me I needed to update the databases again? I l...

Re: PXE Network Booting Configuration.
Ohhh, thats interesting... I actually fixed the issue by using a piece of code that is located in /mnt/live/initrc that says if "changes" = "/srv/pxe/storage" to attempt to mount such path using NFS as RW. So I edited /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default and added the changes cheatcode to reflect /srv/pxe...

RE: PXE Network Booting Configuration.
That works very nicely. It took me about an hour to tear the script down and figure out all that was going on with it. Instead of decompressing the initrd.xz image just to add the kernel modules for NFS and LAN, it maybe better just to include NFS and LAN Modules in the kernel. I choose the let that...

PXE Network Booting Configuration.
Anyhow, it has been some time since I've spoke with you guys. I see the Porteus Distro has made some leaps and bounds since Version 1.2... Moving on... I noticed that Porteus does have the option to host itself as a Network Boot Server that will enable other diskless clients to use that copy to host...

[Solved] Porteus 1.1 Timezone Information...
I know this may seem silly which is why I wrote it in the Newbie Forum instead of Development. Anyhow, I was wondering if there was an easy way to set the Timezone information. I normally wouldn't care but MythTV complains that the Timezones are different between my Slackware 13.1 Server running Myt...

Re: Grub need to install to root partition, NOT MBR only
I know in LILO you can point boot to say /dev/sda1 instead of /dev/sda to boot from the "superblock" of that partition. Keep in mind that this is NOT recommended on XFS filesystems as XFS uses the superblock and may corrupt your filesystem. The "Slackware Installer" also presents the option during s...
