Porteus Save Changes vs Porteus Save Session

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Porteus Save Changes vs Porteus Save Session

Post#1 by postcd » 18 Sep 2017, 10:10

Hello,

in Porteus Settings Centre / Porteus Changes, there are options:

- Porteus Save Changes
- Porteus Save Session

from its description is not clear to me what is the difference. It would be helpfull to tell the example use in description or rephrase it so noob knows the difference.

Also when the savefile.dat is created one is invited to edit porteus.cfg
There it would be helpful to tell which line to edit. Example:

Edit line "APPEND" in porteus.cfg file to look like example:
APPEND initrd=initrd.xz changes=/porteus/savefile.dat

Or even better would be some interface where one can configure boot options like savefile and it will then execute script that will update proteus.cfg

Welcome to Porteus. I myself save neither session nor changes, but surely someone like Ed_P very much dependent on this option would be more qualified to comment here.

Agreed. I don't recall ever using the Save Session option but it was unclear as to whether it required an existing save.dat file or creates a new one. :(

Definitely. And this has been suggested before. Maybe in the next release. :)

And it should be noted that the change should also be made to the refind.conf file if it is going to be used.

Agreed.

BTW Have you looked at the Porteus 3.2's version?
