Manuel Network Connection Problems

Post#1 by mathiasunrein » 24 Jan 2017, 19:29

Hello,

I made a customized Iso (only added two bash scripts for automated printing) of the newest Porteus Kiosk version.

I have the problem that I need a static IP Gateway and DNS configuration at the place where it is supposed to be used.
But if I configure it in the Wizard, it doesnt work and I cant get a connection. The IP etc. I try to use is 100% correct and working if I connect a Ubuntu running Pc.
Also when I try to install it at home, it's working with dhcp but if I try a static IP it wont work.

Do you have any Ideas how to solve this? Is there a general problem with manual network configuration?

Thank you
Mathias

Hello Mathias,

I'm using static IP everyday with kiosk so its definitely something else.
Perhaps your home network uses different IP subnet? Maybe Ubuntu fails back to dhcp automatically when it discovers incorrect IP settings?

You could use dhcp at initial wizard and then switch to static IP (enter relevant parameters manually) just before burning the ISO:

Thank you.

Thank you for the response!

Well at the place where it's supposed to be used (university network) is no dhcp available and the Ip configuration is definitly correct.

But I will try out your suggested method and set it up at home with dhcp and then change the config. Hope it will help!

Well I tried it and had unfortunately no succes.

Is it possible, that Porteus may have some issues with certain IP ranges?

For example : The Station is supposed to run under

IP 134.91.195.230
Netmask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 134.91.195.1
DNS 134.91.1.150 134.91.4.150

I'm using static IP right now when installing kiosk - no problems whatsoever.

Maybe there are two ethernet cards and LAN cable is plugged to the wrong NIC?
Please show me your kiosk config which you use right before the installation - i want to be sure all parameters are correct.

Thanks
