Purpose-Built Porteus

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Purpose-Built Porteus

Post#1 by tmoulder99 » 04 Oct 2015, 19:55

Hi devs!

It's been a while, but I wanted to put out an interesting idea for you. Over at Quirky Puppy, Barry Kauler released a new version that was very intriguing - a purpose built Puppy that was pre-installed with everything nescessary for Android app development, from beginner to expert.

This struck me as a brilliant idea. It also struck me that I have no idea how to install Quirky Puppy, since it's quite complicated to do so

Anyway, with your online build system, it got me wondering about options to build various flavors of porteus, not around a given desktop nescessarily, but around a given task.

A few ideas off the top of my head:

1. Android Development
2. Java Development
3. Gaming (Steam)
4. Gaming (emulator, modern / legacy)
5. Security testing 8)
6. Secure Browser

I'm sure you could get many more.

All of these (or most) would be possible as things currently sit, with the right modules. I just thought the idea was interesting enough to mention.

Thanks!

TM

Looking at all this preoccupation with security in other topics at the moment, I dare say a Porteus offering cast iron security for the paranoid would go down quite well. 8)

Salutations... :good:

nVidia "Cuda" (not bloated but BIG @ over 1.5 gb to build it?) supercomputing... :unknown:
Also distributed supercomputing (distcc... ccache).
And embedded (musl... tcc... busybox...).
I forgot to mention "proxy" (Tor... Vidalia... Privoxy... Polipo)

(I'm doing a homebrew.)

Best Regards...

Wear your underpants on the outside and put on a cape.

Forgetting just one thing, crucial for the paranoid, not to end up as a person of interest.
