Post#16 by digitalmidge » 17 Mar 2016, 16:00

Thanks for the response! I am using the KDE desktop although I would try another if I was able to get results.
What I did:
I used the usm -g to get the dependencies listed installing the first option listed for download. I download the 3 .xzm files.
I activate the samba, mysql and kodi files.
I get a Kodi icon in the menu but when I open it acts like it is loading and then nothing.

What am I missing?
Thank you very much for answering and any help you may be able to provide!

Thanks.

When opening kodi from the terminal I get:

/usr/bin/kodi: line 141: python: command not found

Do you have as proposed:
python (available in 007-printing)

So for 64bit:

Ok. I thought that I installed 07-printing.xzm After closer inspection I did not. Now I am getting a different error on a complete new installation:
/usr/lib64/kodi/kodi.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libp11-kit.so.0: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

I rectified the error with usm -s to find the missing library.

Works! Will test but everything seems great! WOW.

Thanks again

Glad for you.

Please do report after some use, cttan, the porteus community and I would like to hear about it.

Personally, I never used it on porteus.

My main beef is that this kodi build does not seem to include the webserver service used by the phone apps to remote control the app.
This does reduce the usefulness of the software as a media center.
Will continue to research a solution to this issue.

Maybe you can contact cttan thru a personal message. After all, he is the one who provided the package. He might know the answer. :)

Hi digitalmidge,

Thanks for your interest but the module is outdated.

Pls use usm to update to Kodi 15.2.

Code: Select all

# usm -g kodi

 The following items were found.
 Choose an number to confirm.
 ctrl+c to quit

1) kodi-15.2-x86_64-3_slack.txz
#?
I believe web server is default in Kodi. You will need to enable it and then enter a username and password.

@cttan:
There is no choice of package for me:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# usm -u all
 Starting alien database update...
root@porteus:~# usm -g kodi

 Nothing found for: kodi

Hi francois,

Can you check USM version?
You must be on latest version to have slackonly database.

Code: Select all

# usm -v
You are using USM version: 3.1.9
I'm using Porteus 3.1 Final x64 KDE

I am also on 3.1 kde.

I get:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# usm -v
You are using USM version: 3.1.7

root@porteus:~#
How do I get the most recent? Note that I have updated: usm -u all.
Thanks.

In USM there is a menu called "updates" and in the updates there is one called "update USM" just click on it and it will update USM to current. I'm using Mate and it should be in KDE too. That is how I upgraded my USM.
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

Thanks jack. You gave me the idea to see what was the cli solution with usm -h. It is:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# usm -u usm
Downloading: vercheck.txt DONE

@digitalmidge:
How are you doing with kodi on porteus? Any comments on the use of kodi? Free films on kodi is now an heresy? Is there some legal plugins permitting access to free streaming?
