Porteus v3.0-rc2 is out!

Post#1 by brokenman » 07 Feb 2014, 19:40

The Porteus Community is pleased to announce Porteus 3.0 RC2 (Standard Desktop Edition), as well as Porteus Kiosk Edition v3.0 rc2! This is the penultimate release pending the release of v3.0 final. We've put together prepackaged modules for Google-Chrome, Opera, Libreoffice, Abiword, and printing/scanning software, which can be dropped in place to get out-of-the-box functionality! Please note that the "Development" module will now need to be downloaded as a standalone module if you wish to compile additional software in Porteus.

You can download the ISO and other files for the desktop edition here: 32bit and 64bit
You can customize the kiosk ISO using the kiosk wizard here: build it now

Please report bugs/suggestions in our 3.0 rc2 desktop edition feedback thread here: click
Please use relevant thread for Kiosk edition up here: click

Here is our changelog for the Standard Desktop Edition & Kiosk edition:

Kernel:
- Upgraded to linux-3.12.9

Kernel config:
- Added SCSII and SAS drivers compiled as modules, added l2tp and pktgen support

/boot folder:
- Upgraded to plpbt-5.0.14

Porteus-installer-for-Linux:
- Upgraded to lilo-24.0

Linuxrc:
- Check removable media in first place when searching for .sgn file
- Check booting media in first place when searching for changes
- Fixed a bug when /mnt/live/porteus/* symlinks were not created properly when porteus was booting from the ISO image or over the network
- Updated cleanup script to be 'debug' cheatcode aware

Cheatcodes:

001-core.xzm:
- pxe-server: added support for random IP from private pool when nothing is defined
- Configured logrotate to rotate system logs once they reach 500KB in size
- Updated crontab to run daily jobs at 19:30 and not 4:40 in the morning (this way logs in /var/log directory have bigger chance to get rotated).
- /var/log/btmp and /var/log/wtmp files are handled by /etc/logrotate.d/syslog rules
- Merged 2 patches from neko to deb2xzm and dir2xzm scripts
- Upgraded to: openssl-1.0.1f, sshfs-fuse-2.5

002-xorg.xzm:
- Upgraded to: asunder-2.4, cairo-1.12.16, ffmpeg-2.1.3, libbluray-0.5.0, libdrm-2.4.51, libva-intel-driver-1.2.2. libXfont-1.4.7. mesa-10.0.2. mozilla-nss-3.15.4. x264-20131101. xf86-input-synaptics-1.7.3. xf86-video-ati-7.3.0. xorg-server-1.14.5
- Added: archivemount-0.8.3, libvdpau-va-gl-0.3.2

003-kde.xzm:
- Fixed mounting of ntfs formatted external drivers
- Fixed porteus installer
- Enabled password for the screen locker by default
- Fixed handling of button events in powerdevil
- Upgraded to: gnupg-1.4.16, kio-mtp-0.75_p20131020, MPlayer-r36573, oxygen-gtk-1.4.1, qmmp-0.7.4

003-lxde.xzm:
- added a new udev rule to eliminate error message popups when unmounting loop devices (e.g. when unmounting a module).
- tweaked the Zukitwo-ob theme slightly so the menu bar and window manager bar match in color.
- fixed mimetypes so clicking 'show files' after extracting with filer-roller opens the folder in Thunar instead of audacious (lol)
- /etc/lxdm.conf now points to '/usr/bin/startde' which is a symlink to startlxde or startxfce4, respectively. This fixes a bug where switching between lxde and xfce with saved changes causes you to get stuck at the login screen. Thanks to fanthom for suggesting the fix :)
- added '7za' from the p7zip package and symlinked 7z to it. This should resolve our problems with file-roller not being able to open or create some file types, as file-roller defaults to 7z for several filetypes if 7z is present; the 7z we have in 001-core is actually a symlink to 7zr which is a stripped standalone binary that is only capable of handling .7z files. '7za' handles more filetypes but still not as many as the full 7z application that is much larger still; if you are still experiencing extract/compress proplems through file-roller please let me know the filetype so I can evaluate our need for the full package, and/or install the full p7zip package to get this functionality.
- patched file-roller so that extracting iso images works with the newer libarchive
- recompiled gvfs to add Samba and http backends (note these backends need extra packages to work). this was compiled against samba-3.6 from Slackware 14.0 as it won't work against Samba-4 from Slackware 14.1 -- it should still work at runtime against samba-4 but please let me know if you run into troubles. http support requires glib-networking, gnutls, gsettings-desktop-schemas, libproxy and libsoup (already in Xfce).
- recompiled audacious-plugins and a newer version of mplayer against the newer ffmpeg

003-mate.xzm:
- fixed symlinks to gnsu
- replaced xcalc to gcalculator

003-razor.xzm:
- fixed mimetype for text files on desktop
- Compiled 64bit from latest git source which fixes razor-panel starting oversized when starting from startx. 32bit would not compile so will leave it for final.

003-xfce.xzm:
- downgraded xfdesktop to 4.10.2 as 4.11.1 introduced a bug that broke updating the wallpaper through the thunar right-click menu

07-printing.xzm:
