You should add version of your package inside topic's title to avoid some topics with the same name

The link gives a black page with no other information.

The idea of providing other web browser is a good idea. Regularly firefox in my case seems
to freeze the system.

Sorry. It was due to the fact that I used my androit phone to look at your website. From the linux box it works fine. I am trying Opera right now.

Thanks a lot PaulBy. :D

************************************************************************************

This is great. It is the most recent platform. In opera there is no xmarks extension (I use xmarks to synchronize my bookmarks from one linux box to the other), but it was quite easy to import those from a firefox bookmark.html export file.

With Opera, I will be able to sort out if firefox is the one that always freeze my porteus system. I will report on that in another thread.

Thanks once more.

*************************************************************************************

It seems from what I read that Opera should save each session automatically. How come it does not do that for me? Or what could I do to keep the same windows open from session to session?

Thanks.

What does opera make, that firefox doesn't? or is it not as big, at least?

Maybe we should organize short reviews of duplicate (from Porteus point of view) software, to make them eventually eligible for substitution. Chrome seems to be a good candidate too....

I had once Opera in my laptop (in Windows) and it was better than Outlook Express by far, but that was years ago (over 5 or 6); I think it had a mail client integrated. Nowadays I use webmail and leave the mail in the server; it is more Porteus friendly that way...

Regards!
Porteus is proud of the FASTEST KDE ever made.....(take akonadi, nepomuk and soprano out and you will have a decent OS).

It is interesting to have the availability of different web browsers, even though standard porteus comes out with one that is preferentially installed. After all, web browsing is one of the most important functions for day to day activities. And people have their preferences. In addition, when one web browser begins to be sluggish, the use of a second one is a good troubleshooting strategy.

For newbies or newcomers to linux, an interesting feature of crunchbang is that they have a standard web browser, but offer the choice to install a secondary one (chrome or another one) thru the internet menu of the toolbar that gets you in a script that automatically install the new web browser and assigns it as the standard web browser option. This scripts triggers apt-ge install chromium.

The same option in porteus would just be to download this given web browser to replace firefox and maybe install its icon in the toolbar.

Francois :)
To get to the Opera last saved session, do Ctr+F12 (Settings-Preferences) - General - Startup - Continue Save Session.
Analogue of xMarks in Opera is Opera Links. Very convenient, especially if it is used on different computers, smartphones with different OS, tablets and even ordinary phones. Unfortunately, neither Firefox nor Chrome with such a variety of platforms cannot boast of.
Additionally Opera attracts the presence of the built-in mail client, a good Manager downloads, uploads from torrents, sync notes, etc.
Very attractive password Manager, in my opinion it much better than in other browsers, and most importantly - hide passwords from prying eyes.
However, for all the advantages, there are significant disadvantages: incorrect display of many pages, incompatibility with the web management interfaces of most corporate systems, braking when displaying graphics and multimedia on complex pages, etc. :(
So called Opera is the ideal web browser can be only at a stretch :unknown:

@PaulBy:

Thanks for the information. It is nice to you to provide this summarized information about opera web browser :)

I used to work with opera more often a few years ago. It was by then a very decent web browser in addition to be very light. I liked it a lot. I am less familiar with it now.

Opera is really fast and crisp. A lot more fast than firefox. Over the years it seemed to have added a lot of funcionalities. That is great. That is even better. :D

About password management. Opera ask you if you want to save your username and password. However, next time you get to the web page, for example porteus page, you have to provide anew both complete username and password. Is this normal behavior? :)
