regarding kdesu:
i checked PCLinuxOS and it behaves the same (remembers password only for certain action). you may try to configure kdesu to use sudo which should remember passwords for specific time periods:
kdesu can be configured with a per user configuration file in ~/.kde4/share/config/kdesurc

EXAMPLE

The configuration item for the configuration files is the following:
[super-user-command]
super-user-command=sudo
regarding compatibility module:
please be patient - will post it when ready.

It's not working :(

I created a file kdesurc in /~.kde4/share/config as you wrote (with the two lines inside). After that I edited sudoers with visudo and inserted the line:

Code: Select all

Defaults timestamp_timeout=15
just below the last Defaults-entry to enable a 15-minutes-cache for the sudo-password. I restarted the computer...but kdesu still is bugging me with password-dialogues all the time. Afterwards I copied kdesurc from /~.kde4/share/config to /root/~.kde4/share/config just to make sure...and restartet X...no change in behaviour.

'~' means your home directory.
run 'cd /tmp/' and then 'cd ~'

so you should place it in:

Code: Select all

/home/guest/.kde4/share/config
or

Code: Select all

/root/.kde4/share/config

I know. It's a typo. I created the files in

Code: Select all

/home/guest/.kde4/share/config/
and

Code: Select all

/root/.kde4/share/config/
Their content is:

Code: Select all

[super-user-command]
super-user-command=sudo
Their filename (in both folders):

Code: Select all

kdesurc
The Defaults-Section in sudoers:

Code: Select all

##
## Defaults specification
##
## You may wish to keep some of the following environment variables
## when running commands via sudo.
##
## Locale settings
Defaults env_keep += "LANG LANGUAGE LINGUAS LC_* _XKB_CHARSET"
##
## Run X applications through sudo; HOME is used to find the
## .Xauthority file. Note that other programs use HOME to find
## configuration files and this may lead to privilege escalation!
Defaults env_keep += "HOME"
##
##
## X11 resource path settings
Defaults env_keep += "XAPPLRESDIR XFILESEARCHPATH XUSERFILESEARCHPATH"
##
## Desktop path settings
Defaults env_keep += "QTDIR KDEDIR"
##
## Allow sudo-run commands to inherit the callers' ConsoleKit session
Defaults env_keep += "XDG_SESSION_COOKIE"
##
##
## Uncomment to enable special input methods. Care should be taken as
## this may allow users to subvert the command being run via sudo.
Defaults env_keep += "XMODIFIERS GTK_IM_MODULE QT_IM_MODULE QT_IM_SWITCHER"
##
## Uncomment to enable logging of a command's output, except for
## sudoreplay and reboot. Use sudoreplay to play back logged sessions.
# Defaults log_output
# Defaults!/usr/bin/sudoreplay !log_output
# Defaults!/usr/local/bin/sudoreplay !log_output
#
#Manually added - Timeout for Password-Entry:
Defaults timestamp_timeout=15

How to find out? E.G. kradio just complains:
"Found only 0 libraries. Expected a minimum of 5. Please check the KRadio4 installation directory and the environment variables KDEDIR, KDEDIRS and KDEHOME."
Of course I executed kradio4 from commandline. There's no other output.

The porteus language-setting-tool dissappeared from KDE-menu (at least I can't find it). So I can't reproduce any error. Only thing I can say: Keyboard, Characters etc. are all correctly changed to german. Just KDE still is in english language.

Nepomuk complains about not running correctly at kde-startup. When I start nepomuk-backup from commandline I get:

Code: Select all

QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
A GUI-windows appears reading:
Nepomuk does not seem to be running. Backups cannot be handled without it.
Starting nepomuk-server however, gives this output at commandline:

Code: Select all

QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
Nepomuk server already running.
At leas kstreamripper complains about a missing library:

Code: Select all

kstreamripper: error while loading shared libraries: libnepomukutils.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I'm sure when installing this file, the next missing file will be reported (as usual), until all files are in place.

I'm sorry but I don't think I can be more helpfull here.

kradio message is really awkward. maybe you could stick to 'great little radio player' included by default?
The porteus language-setting-tool dissappeared from KDE-menu (at least I can't find it).
because it's bundled in 'Porteus Settings Centre' and never was as standalone app (at least not in 3.0 release)
Only thing I can say: Keyboard, Characters etc. are all correctly changed to german. Just KDE still is in english language.
try to change it in 'kde system settings' to german. you should also have 'kde-l10n-de-4.12.3-noarch-1ftm' listed in /var/log/packages.
Nepomuk complains about not running correctly at kde-startup.
nepomuk is resource hungry and our KDE is compiled without a support for it. i doubt it will ever work but some apps still needs nepomuk libs to run and these are included in compatibility module i prepared.

please try 'compatKDE4-libraries' module and check if it helps:
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/current/extras/

Just testing...

KOrganizer is starting now but complains about "Akonadi personal information management service" not running. It's missbehaving afterwards (too many things just not working). KAddressbook can't find

Code: Select all

libgrantlee_core.so.0
Kradio's behavior is unchanged. It's hard to find a good replacement. (K?)streamtuner (not sure about the name right now) is known not to work anymore in present linux-distros. Great Little Radio can't save streams to hdd, which is essential for a webradio-player in my mind. Radiotray is not running for some reason and VLC...is just a bad webradio-player. Directory always outdated, uncomfortable usage, slow, ...there is screamer in windows-world which is perfect. Unfortunately it's not running well in wine.

As to language-support: kde-l10n-de-4.12.3-noarch-1ftm is missing for some reason :Search: and in KDE system-settings the list of languages is empty. Maybe I should re-run the porteus language-tool?!

I'm having trouble with Desktop-Icons just dissapearing after some reboot. I use the folder-view for desktop. I don't know if it is because of the new package from here. Does somebody else suffer this problem?

All icons are just vanished after reboot. It doesn't happen on every reboot and some reboots later it might be ok again. However when it happens, it looks like kde switched the desktop back to usual "desktop-mode". However, when I right-click on desktop and choose "folder-settings" the dialogue shows me that the folder-view was still active.

When I choose "Default Desktop" and click on "apply" the settings-window just dissappear (!) and the desktop is changed to default kde-style. Calling the settings again and choosing folder-view this time brings back my icons after hitting ok or apply. I have to repeat this for all of my desktops.

I can bring back the icons this way, though they are disordered afterwards. I have to re-arrange them every time (on all desktops).

IT IS INCREDIBLE ANNOYING!

How can I stop kde removing my icons?

please use stock KDE4 modules (no xzms added on your side) + changes and let me know if you were able to recreate this bug.
thanks

Stock?? I went to the modules folder and filtered all modules with kde in name for deactivation.

I found three modules:

Code: Select all

compatKDE4-libraries-14.1-x86_64-1ftm.xzm
kde4-kio-mtp-0.75-x86_64.xzm
kdepimlibs-4.10.5-x86_64-1.xzm
After deactivating them, I moved them to another folder and did two reboots. At the second reboot the icons were gone again.

done 10 reboots (changes saved on hd and folder-view plasmoid used for the desktop layout) and still cant reproduce your bug.
please do fresh porteus installation -> try to recreate your bug -> provide reliable reproduction path.

thanks
