Porteus logo, anyone?

Post#1 by agreimann » 31 May 2011, 22:59

I heard that we needed a Porteus logo, so I thought that I might work on one! Oh, and guys, usually I stick to things like programming in my free time... but I thought this might be a cool way to contribute.

Let me know what you think! Here they are:

Note the first one does not have the traditional curve all around the top, while the second tries to stay more traditional.

Look at the top of this page.

Your img tag isn't working correctly either.

Right--maybe I just thought I saw something weird then? I guess you're right.

I purposely allowed the img tag to put the pictures on my post, rather than being so cruel as to make viewers look for the pictures with a link. If that is not allowed, I can either take the pictures off or provide a link.

Update: I was seeing a comment on someone needing to do this for a wallpaper, not for the distro! I feel really dumb for posting this now... :D

I like the present version of the Porteus logo. It looks like the tail of a fight-cock, symbol of masculinity in the Hispanic world (="macho"); it is therefore a symbol of challenge, and that is what we pretend: to conquer the world with the most advanced OS!

Cheers!

Porteus is proud of the FASTEST KDE ever made.....(take akonadi, nepomuk and soprano out and you will have a decent OS).
The Porteus Community never sleeps!

What i meant about your image tag is that i can only see the word 'image'. There is no link, and no picture embedded. There is no way to see the image you speak of. Maybe it's just me.

It's ok to embed images in a post provided they are not HUGE images that stretch the screen or take ages to load up. Anyway ... the present logo is in the form of a wave of water, with proteus being the god of the sea, able to change his form at will ..... or the tail of a fighting-cock, whichever floats your boat.

Interesting... here's honestly what I thought the Porteus logo was. I always thought that it was the beak (and head) of Tux (the Linux mascot, since Porteus uses the Linux kernel), or that alternatively, it was a dolphin diving into the sea.

To be honest, my chain of thought actually leaned more toward a diving dolphin. Hence, if you look at these modified versions I made, you will notice that they resemble more of a dolphin feel. I found the original definition from fanthom--it is a mix, I guess, of Proteus and "the god of the sea" that changed whenever it wished. So, I was certainly wrong--and now that I look at both more correct viewpoints, I can see that. Thanks for setting me straight on that, guys. :)

@wread: The "cocktail" idea is truly interesting... here, it seems to be things such as bears, wolverines, rattlers, a lion, or otherwise other "tough" animals. On a noble side for us, which is our national symbol, it's the eagle. Anyway... I just thought this would be cool to share. It is truly neat how every culture sees things in a unique way. :)

@brokenman: Under my account, I can see both Porteus images I linked to this thread. Are the images not showing up from your view? If so, I need to find a way to fix that. Thanks for letting me know. :)

@all: Disclaimer I forgot to add before using your logo: The Porteus logo is associated with Porteus and the Porteus Portable Linux Community, respectively. No copyright infringement of the title, or logo was intended in any way.

I'm not sure whether your logo was copyrighted against modifying it as so or not. Should have checked with you guys first. Anyway, it sounds like we've got a logo that will stay. :D

Regards,

-- Andrew

Hello,

If you have a better logo, you can suggest it to the community. :)
Or , you can post your own artworks on this forum.

Now i can see your images. nope no copyright was placed against modifying our logo. There were quite a few created and the community voted on which one one they wanted so i think we will stick with the democratic decision. 101 in logo design for a company is find one and stick with it.

I can't see them while I'm at work, but I can see them through linux and on my phone, so maybe you had some kind of filter against media sharing when you were looking before. By the way, could you give my company your logo 101 course? They keep changing the damn thing...
Please take a look at our online documentation, here. Suggestions are welcome!
