Porteus looks promising but I have hit a wall.
I have just installed to a flash drive, and now I am trying to get things going.
(v 3.2.2, Cinnamon, i586 version. IBM Thinkpad R51. Boots good, no applications installed)
It sees the wifi, but the wifi does not connect. Is there something actually incompatible, or is the interface for connecting just hard to find?
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Welcome to porteus
have a look at "Porteus Settings Center"(under the "System" menu section)
in the info section(far right icon) under "Network" tab should have the information about whether this is a hardware issue.
if you could post that here, that might help..

error with the boards: it won't let me submit a message, saying that I can not specify a font size greater than 200. I am not trying to specify a font size at all.

It might be a hardware compatibility issue, but I am sure there is nothing physically wrong with my hardware, because other distros made it work.

just to clarify:
when you rightclick on network-manager-applet in the system tray,
your wifi network is visible? you click on it and nothing happens?(no dialog asking for password etc?)
kernel driver seems to be in order..
this could be a missing firmware problem.. in which case this package http://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/ ... arch-1.txz might help
or
try swapping out the kernel module(<your usb>/porteus/base/000-kernel.xzm)
and vmlinuz (<your usb>/boot/syslinux/vmlinuz)
with these ones from here: http://brokenman.porteus.org/current/x8 ... ux-4.13.5/
which i believe has more firmware supported..
