Missing suspend option

Post#1 by postcd » 20 Sep 2017, 20:08

Hello,

in Porteus 3.1 i was able to suspend my laptop (Latitude D600), there was a suspend option. But in Porteus 3.2.2 i do not see this option. I tried to suspend it by command:
sudo /usr/sbin/pm-suspend
but when pushed the power button to wake up PC, i seen a black screen with grayscale mosaic (like an fatal OS failure), was unable to do anything.
I am running in Always fresh mode. Laptop has no HDD, only flash disk.

free -mht

Code: Select all

total used free shared buff/cache available

Please what are steps to suspend the computer properly in Porteus 3.2.2?

UPDATE: I found the Suspend option is Under "Log Out" button, BUT there was an issue. I tried it (was booted in "To RAM" mode) and when computer wake up, i see the screen without issue, but it was completely frozen (except mouse pointer), waited a few minutes.

Close the lid works as does not keying in anything for a period of time works for me. Opening the lid and touching a keyboard key activates my system.

Close the lid works
Thx for the feedback Ed_P. In Xfce Power Manager (installed by default), the default action on lid close is to lock screen, so i set suspend and it suspended the laptop. Then on awake i see everything, but everything is frozen, except mouse cursor which change its shape (pointer / hand / working wheel) as i mouse over the screen or click somewhere. But the screen does not respond to my actions.

What worked is to do Ctrl + Alt + Del to lock the screen, then any key to return back[/b]. But i seen case where the Ctrl+Alt+Del NOT worked and i had to hold power button to terminate the OS because it was "frozen" after unsuspending. :hmmm:

The suspension from Menu / Log Out button / Suspend works similar way like a suspend trigger when closing the laptop lid.

Glad you found a solution. Glad I'm using Cinnamon and not XFCE. :D
