Welcome to porteus!

What type of installation are you trying usb or hdd? Are you on fat32 or on linux filesystem, and if the latter which filesystem? If you are on linux filesystem you will be able to save changes. If on fat32, you will have to create a container.

Porteus is a slackware derivative, there is no apt-get which is ubuntu or debian derivatives OS. For package management you have to use usm package manager:

Code: Select all

su
toor
usm -u all
usm -g [package name]
or you can use the usm gui interface.

And what iso image would that be? Knowing that will help determine why you have no apps.

Ok, no harm in that. Once booted use Porteus Save File Manager to create a save.dat file, when you reboot you can choose other modes.
i used the prog ultiraiso to write the image into my removbal flash momery
Why?

Web Browser or File Browser?

For a web browser boot portues to the dekstop and then open the command line console icon and type.

su
toor
usm -u all
update-firefox
firefox

If you have a second USB stick then boot Portues into fresh mode and then plugin the second USB stick and use Gparted to format it to EXT4 and then use Portues Installer to install porteus to the second stick and then you will have a flashdrive that will save changes between reboots without having to create a save file.

Once you have Portues setup how you like then use the -ro boot code to set the USB stick as read-only.

Download a browser module from http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/Porteus-v3.2.2/modules/
copy the .xzm module to the /porteus/modules/ folder,
dbl click on it to activate it.
Porteus menu > Internet should have a link to start it.

A .dat container file is a two step process.

1. Create a save.dat file.
1.a Porteus menu > Admininstration > Porteus save file manager
1.b How big to make it? Until recently my save.dat file was less than 512MB. But things I download and modules I use are stored on the USB drive not in Porteus's /home/guest/ folder.

2. Tell Porteus's boot process that you have a save.dat file.
2.a On BIOS systems you have to add the changes= cheatcode to the /boot/syslinux/porteus.cfg file.
2.b On UEFI systems you have to add the changes=cheatcode to the /EFI/BOOT/refind.conf file.

3. Reboot
