Which browser? Here I have the exact same behavior with Firefox + Intel HD.

I read these days that Youtube HTML5 doesn't have hw acceleration for vp9 codecs, and some people use h264ify extension to disable vp9 and enable h.264 codec -- which supposedly has hw acell. I tried but it doesn't make any difference. The only solution at the moment is to download the video and watch it through SMPlayer + Mpv.

Sometimes I wonder the same, hahaha! But on the other hand we have some good things, like more freedom and flexibility. The idea of having an always fresh bootable OS inside an USB stick is simply amazing! With the plus of being really light and fast (I'm booting in 20s right now through an USB 3.0 ). I'm saying that and I used DOS/Windows for my entire life -- Linux is something new for me; less than 6 months!

It's not just that. Nvidia drivers with prefix after 340.xx, like for example: 365.xx or 375.00, doesn't work with Porteus as some libs from Mesa driver create conflicts. That's why I do some tricks with that script.

Evan, I agree with you. I understand though that brokenman is working basically alone in Porteus project, and he also has his own life to live. And regarding kernel updates I think Porteus is up to date in a impressive pace.

But, as you said, it would be great if we could have more effort on some updates, like graphics card (we're still using Mesa 11v although Mesa is currently at 17v), FFMpeg, libgphoto (in order to access smartphone and camera files), NetworkManager. Also, it's easy to create some xzm modules bundled with Porteus that are really useful, like Wine and Qt, for example. This kind of update/module is, in my opinion, the most used by common users and also one of the most boring to manually compile.

Yesterday had jerky movement on YT using html5 player. Had to close tab in other browser and video played fine, however noticed playing around 89% cpu load. Stopped playback and switched to gecko-mediaplayer, which has h/w accel. CPU at 100% while caching, but once playing comes down to around 36%. Swings and merry-go-rounds, maybe. Will have to investigate further.
