[SOLVED] Porteus 3.2.2 XFCE Guest Login

No matter which method I try to create a USB install of Porteus, I can't login the persistent version using the guest account.
If I use "Always Fresh" it logs into guest user automagically.
The graphical reddish login screen on the standard boot option accepts the username/pass, spouts some text, then pops right back to the login screen.

I can, however, login with root. And that works... but why not guest?
I'd rather not run as root all the time.

Thanks,

welcome to porteus :)
maybe try this from: http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... ons#p51231
When you login to root try this from a console:

Code: Select all

 chown -R guest: /home/guest
Then log out and try to log in as guest again.
if you could provide some more details: DE, arch(32bit or 64bit), any extra modules, filesystem of install media.... might be helpful, thanks..

Do you have any other extra modules loaded too?

Clearly it was something I did wrong in the initial installation from windows 10.
I am pretty sure it was a permissions issue of some kind.
Consequently I kept trying to install porteus from porteus - which was maintaining any changes I had made, and probably any permissions issues.

Solution was to clear the /porteus/changes from the USB drive i was using.
Then boot porteus as always clean - and install into my other USB drive 2nd partition using the included installer.

Works awesome now! This is the coolest distro I've ever used. I have dreamed of having a live persistent install for some time now - as the ubuntu flavors never quite worked to my satisfaction. So glad I found this. Its now living on my 2nd partition of my tiny Samsung 128Gig USB3 drive. 110GB FAT32, 16GB EXT4.

I'm really a fan of all the extra hints and verbage inserted throughout. Very impressed. Cheers
