Brother HLL2305W Laser Printer

I want to buy a Brother HLL2305W Laser Printer. I built "system-config-printer-1.3.13-x86_64-bundle.xzm" and I want to use this driver "hll2305cupswrapper-3.2.0-1.i386.xzm". Here is a list of packages I use and this driver hll2305cupswrapper-3.2.0-1.i386.deb.

Code: Select all

dbus-python-1.2.0-x86_64-1.txz
foomatic-filters-4.0.12-x86_64-1.txz
ghostscript-9.07-x86_64-2.txz
gutenprint-5.2.9-x86_64-1.txz
notify-python-0.1.1-x86_64-3.txz
pycairo-1.8.10-x86_64-2.txz
pycups-1.9.61-x86_64-1.txz
pycurl-7.19.0-x86_64-2.txz
pygobject-2.28.6-x86_64-2.txz
pygtk-2.24.0-x86_64-1.txz
python-2.7.5-x86_64-1.txz
system-config-printer-1.3.13-x86_64-1.txz
Will this be all I will need for it to work? Any help will be great.
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

hi in a 64 bit version you need this: As the Brother drivers are 32-bit only, I then re-installed the following libs:

glibc-solibs-2.17_multilib-x86_64-9alien.txz
cups-compat32-1.5.4-x86_64-3compat32.txz
please check the software version that you have:

I take it that all I need? And I don't need what I posted? I use USM to get what I posted.

Where is francois printer package at? I haven't got the printer yet. I want to make sure it will work. I guest I could run the 32 bit version of Porteus if I need to.

I found this Samsung Xpress M2070W Monochrome Wireless Laser - Printer / copier / scanner.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Xpress- ... Sw-jhT~BRm

Do you think this is better then the Brother HLL2305W Laser Printer? It dose have 64bit driver support.

Personally, I would go for brother. They have done a better job for me than hp printer and they are more robust. In addition they separate the drum and the toner cartridge which I find to be more environmental friendly.

I have not much experience with samsung printer models, except for the c460fw laser color printer:

There seems to exist a printer driver for your model:

Did you search the reviews to compare brother and samsung?

And even better the ppd for the M2070W is within the following package. Just extract the file, it is in the uld/noarch/share/ppd/ folder as Samsung_M2020_Series.ppd:
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/d ... .99.tar.gz

This seems a pretty safe choice to run on porteus. 8)

@jack:
I am downloading alien bob`s slackware current live cd. This way I might know if cups is going to change. After thinking about it, we could also try porteus kiosk of fanthom to see if he is using a cups version superior to 1.5.4. If this is the case, I am quite sure that the next printing.xzm will work on porteus.
