Bluetooth in Porteus?

Hi, I am novice linux user, I build, downloaded and installed porteus, it works and looks great. However, I can't connect to internet without bluetooth, I don't know how to install it, since the .deb file is not working.

Is there a way I can download bluetooth software in another pc and transfer/install it on porteus because it is not connected to network/??

FAA Bluetooth in Porteus?

Welcome to porteus san25.

The best desktop environment for bluethoot should be kde. Which desktop do you use. What linux box are you working on. Are you on porteus 3.1? See:
viewtopic.php?f=81&t=4047

But there must have been development since that thread. I cannot for the moment find a more recent thread.

I imagine that fanthom or beny might come and have a look at this thread. He is the expert.

I am on xfce as I am more familiar with that desktop I chose that whilst building it. This is what my iso image says: Porteus-XFCE-v3.1-i486

I am just blown away by the speed, looks and its ability to play music/videos right out of the box. Just want to get my internet working so I can get more stuff on it.

Found this on one of the links you shared, where do I download this files, I am not familiar with slackware at all, have only used ubuntu and puppy linux in the past.

How to enable bluetooth in slackware?
Install bluez and bluez-utils

modprobe bluetooth

/etc/init.d/bluetooth start (or service bluetooth start)

hcitool scan

There you go.

You could as well have a look at installing gnome-bluetooth or bluedevil (for kde)

Regards
Thanks for your help.

You can use the porteus package manager called USM. In command line:

Code: Select all

usm -u all
usm -g "package-of-interest"
There is also:

Code: Select all

usm sbo -s "package-of-interest"
However, here you will need the devel.xzm package in the /porteus/modules folder to be activated.

Then follow the instructions.

In case of missing packages report. We will find some additional ways to fetch the missing packages or libraries.

Cheers. :)

Note, the update of USM requires an internet connection to work.

This is a very pertinent comment. San25, my pal, I hope you have a nice neighbor.
You will have to finish your usb installation on a neighbor`s network.

Very pertinent thread.

Thank you all of you for trying to help me.

But I am not that expert and to be honest, everything is just going over my head right now.

Isn't there a Porteus version that comes with bluetooth pre-installed?

It is more easy than what it looks at first glance. Did you install porteus on usb key? Are you on a Linux file system offer on fat32? Do you still have access to your friend's computer?

The KDE desktop is your best bet. You will need bluez or blueman installed for bluetooth.

You will have to create a save.dat container to add persistence to porteus on the USB key. See porteus FAQ save. dat container or:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=5506
Then download the necessary packages with:

Code: Select all

usm -u all
usm -g "package-of-interest"
Then put the modules into /porteus/modules and reboot or activate the new modules.

That won't work without the internet. I will try the kde desktop, I think.

You will need internet with kde too. In any case, you downloaded the porteus iso. You will have to download the iso on usb and install the packages anyway.

Good luck.
