Best File Managers To Use on Porteus

Greetings!

You guys' advice has always pulled through for me and though there are lots of opinions out there on what app is best, I value your takes on it here. Not exactly Midnight Commander, but I'm seeking a directory file manager which can display the directories of two different drives in parallel columns and sort by what files are different and allow you to copy such files into the opposite column. Which would you use with Porteus?

Thanks for any hints!

Emelfm exactly suits your requiremments. Been using it on DSL.

pkgs.org

Code: Select all

emelfm2-0.8.0-i486-3sl.txz

Description
emelfm2 - GTK2+ File Manager
Distribution: Slackware 13.37
Repository: Slacky i486
Package name: emelfm2
Package version: 0.8.0
Package architecture: i486
Package type: txz
Installed size: 1,38 MB
Download size: 489,00 KB
Binary package: emelfm2-0.8.0-i486-3sl.txz
Source package: unknown
emelFM2 is a file manager that implements the popular two-pane design. It features a simple GTK2+ interface, a flexible filetyping scheme, and a built-in command line for executing commands without opening an xterm.
EDIT: Tried a quick download just now. There remain dependencies to chase up. :(

Or else ask usm

Code: Select all

 root@porteus:/home/guest# usm -s emelfm
Nothing was found in Slackware but i found this in slackbuilds.
NAME :  emelfm2
CATEG: system
DESC :
VERS : 0.8.1
 Would you like to attempt to build this from source? [y/n]

spacefm is a very customizeable and complete option.

But spaceFM is going to be dropped in the next release according to this:

Been using spaceFM in preference to Dolphin for the bookmarking, but don't find it that easy to use, as opposed to emelFM.

@Ed_P
jimwg's question simply asked about useful file managers that could be used under porteus. Nothing to do with next release and default file manager.

@Bogomips
Yes it is not for everybody but still worth a look.

@iga007:
So you are on lxde. What version of porteus do you have?
Are you on 32 or 64 bit architecture?

The gtk 32 bit version for gtk2 is here (from pkgs.org):
http://pkgs.org/debian-jessie/debian-ma ... /download/
The gtk 64 bit version for gtk2 is here(from pkgs.org) :
http://pkgs.org/debian-jessie/debian-ma ... /download/

This is a debian package. Right click on it, and use deb2xzm to transform it into a porteus module. It seems to work well under xfce. It should be good in lxde.

To start doublecmd file manager you have to use the /usr/lib/doublecmd/doublecmd command in terminal mode. You can create a .desktop file to start it from the lxde panel menu. See:
https://developer.gnome.org/integration ... es.html.en

If you need some help, just ask for it. :wink:
