Have vlc and vlc browser plugin. But after this, smplayer cannot play YouTube url, however is able to play back a video file on disk. Any idea how smplayer is being blocked? Something to do with the port, perhaps?

does it play in smtube ok? please provide the URL so i could try myself.

Almost any YT url will do it. However some have funny code protection. So, yes did not work from smtube the time I tried it. Running smplayer from terminal did not produce any error message. Also noticed after this, that the volume of vlc, which could however play the url, was affected. Signicant decrease in maximum sound volume. Maybe this is just subjective.
