I installed VLC!

Post#1 by tmoulder99 » 09 Aug 2014, 01:43

To you guys, this might seem like a minor thing, but to me, it's pretty major :Yahoo!:

One question: the process created a whole bunch of modules for dependencies, and they all have to be activated. I want VLC available, so I want to add it to /porteus/modules/, but adding them all will make things - messy.

Can I put a folder, ala /porteus/modules/vlc215/ and expect the modules to be activated? Alternatively, perhaps preferably, is there a way to combine all of these? The directions indicated there was, but I could not make sense of it, and the USM did not offer a clear option.

Thanks!

TM

/porteus/modules/vlc215/ is exactly what you should do. This is the way I work, so to keep things clean in the module section.

Congrats. For future reference there is an option on one of the USM screens when choosing your package to 'merge' the packages into one single module. You won't need to choose to create modules for each package, just one giant module at the end.

Very good tip from brokenman for these packages that count many dependencies. :)

Greetings:

Can there be a one-button "select all first choice dependencies" option for similar USM files that have dozens?

!!! Replying to a 6 month old thread!! A slow day??

Is this sarcasm?

In fact, interested by tv-computer-streaming set-up with kodi, I read that vlc could be used as a rate streaming device. As I needed vlc, I sought for a porteus vlc version and I read this thread. I finally decided to build it with usm. As there are many dependencies, the bundle is the most practical solution.

The merge function of usm package manager highlighted by brokenman has to be publicized. And this is what I do. Newcomers have to be informed.

Bis for the merge function of usm as one would say.
