Simplest SSH VNC Solutions

Greetings!

(Is it worth opening a category on Proteus and networking?)

Right now I'm using KRDC on KDE to remote desktop with a third-hand Mac OS 10.4 eMac very successfully (my normal mode is XFCE, but its "Tiger" VNC is very primitive and XFCE also doesn't do Stellarium among others). My sole quibble in using KRDC VNC in a high density urban location is security. I've been plumbing through Slackware and Salix and other libraries via Google for a means to secure my Porteus VNC via ssh without being a nuclear physicists to do it. Vinagre and Remmina are stella examples that configure ssh-VNC almost automatically to secure your line. I'd like to know what people here are using for secured Remote Desktop and your recommendations for least complicated solutions that wil give newbies and OS tasters the least hassle.

Thanks!
