HELP: Is it possible to create a server VPN with Porteus?

Post#1 by Leito360 » 25 Mar 2014, 22:43

Hi.
Well, my main idea was to use Softether VPN... but i couldn't make it run with Porteus, also I was unable to install it in this distro.
So unexpectedly, I found that porteus had options for several VPNs, in this case, OpenVPN.

Is there a way to mount a server with the OpenVPN provided by Porteus and connect me from another machine using a different OS?

How do I mount the server in Porteus?

Its pretty easy to do with openvpn. It is already installed on porteus. You need to create a config file and certificate
to run it use "openvpn start"

Can you explain it to me with more detail? I'm pretty much new to Porteus and Linux in general.
Can you post a mini tutorial with screenshots or something similar?

I really need this.

I ended up making a GUI that automates the whole process. Spent all day on it, just got a couple things I got to fix and test but its looking pretty sweet.

Hahahaha, with a quick HOWTO on the forums, it would have been enough, bu that's great.

TBH, I would like to know how to convert tar.gz files to see if there's a way to create a module for softether VPN, maybe some day I will.

Where should I look for your GUI when it's been finished?

check your other post, I made a softether module for ya. http://porteus-apps.tk/?q=xzm/softether-vpn-406-0
See how you go with softether, its easier to use than openvpn, even with the gui .

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the bottom of your post

With softether I had to build it from source, I coulden't find a package for it. Otherwise you can convert tar.gz by right clicking it and choosing convert to xzm module. You can also convert other packages like rpm and deb.

Ill pm ya

I forgot Softether on Linux is all command line, it was very naive from my part hoping to see a GUI on their program.
And yeah, softether has such facility to use, I used mainly on windows, but now, if I don't get an HDD, I'll have to mount a VPN server with Porteus.
