Hello forum.
I'm currently using the new version of Porteus v3.0 86_64 installed on the Hard Drive Disk. So far I'm loving it and discovering needs a step at a time.
How can I open the character map so I can browse symbols and special characters?
I guess it could be a module
Thanks

In general, we're probably expected to create a keybind to call up the charmap.
Each of the various desktop environments typically has a component / widget / tray-thingie for it, or exposes it via a rootmenu entry (check "accessories" category in your DE's rootmenu)

It seems there is none out of the box. You can install it if you want. Under linux three character map packages are possible, see:
http://superuser.com/questions/450058/c ... p-in-linux
You can download gucharmap with usm (unified slackware manager) our package manager. I have run it, it seems quite functional. See:
http://gucharmap.sourceforge.net/
Use kde search application to start gucharmap.

Hum! Under kde:
It seems that this package is not yet already available under slackware 14.1.
If you prefer kcharselect, it is within the kdeutils package available for slackware 13.37:
http://pkgs.org/download/kdeutils-kcharselect
Download the package with the right architecture and convert it to a xzm module.
I tested it, it works when started from command line. If you rather have started from the kde menu, just let us know we will help you with that as much as if you prefer starting the other package above mentioned.
Code: Select all
root@porteus:~# kcharselect
bash: kcharselect: command not found
