Disabled network management at boot

Post#1 by nobrainer » 10 Aug 2013, 05:54

Hi,
I'm using Porteus 4.1 customised build ISO to boot from CD. During boot messages confirm that network manager and dhcpcd are disabled automatically. As a result, on opening network manager is grayed out and i'm unable feed settings for eth0 & eth1. (I 've 2 network cards one connected to internet and other to LAN.) Hence there is no internet & LAN access.
Please help.

did you select 'nonetwork' option during the wizard?
if yes then please create new ISO and do not enable this option. if not then please post the output of 'lspci -knn' command.

thanks

No. Most probably I didnot select nonetwork option.
Still, i am posting output of lspci -knn from terminal -

@nobrainer:
Really it would be good that you do the first step of the problem solving proposed by fanthom:
did you select 'nonetwork' option during the wizard
That is redo the whole process making sure that you do not select `nonetwork`. :wink:

lspci is the second step, and of no use if you did not follow the first step. I would be surprised that fanthom will go further with your demand. In addition for lenghty output, use the Code limits to shrink the space taken by your post. :)

@nobrainer
lspci shows that both of your ethernet cards are supported and this sentence:
During boot messages confirm that network manager and dhcpcd are disabled automatically.
tells me that you are using 'nonetwork' cheatcode somehow (wizard fault?). please run 'cat /proc/cmdline' and check if you get 'nonetwork' string. if yes then:
a) remove every occurrence of it from /boot/syslinux/porteus.cfg
b) if you are saving changes then please read 'nonetwork' cheat description in /boot/docs/cheatcodes.txt and follow instructions to bring back dhcpcd/network manager.

thanks
