Slackware, Slax, Porteus?

Post#1 by newbody » 25 Dec 2012, 08:49

Are Porteus a community based Slax or has Porteus changed teh code
too much to be seen as a Slax and how are Slax and Porteus related to
Slackware.

I got a response on another forum that makes me very unsure of how it is.

Why do you ask this in a Slackware forum? Your question has no relevance here.

Eric
Is Porteus so different from Slackware that it is misleading to refer to Slackware at all?

Porteus is slackware portable linux with a lot of tweaks that it makes the experience of slackware no sweat. A lot of small size, simplicity, modularity, compatibility, stability and performance, is provided. High flexibility is available thru cheatcodes. It is still slackware as it is built on slackware, even though you can use other distribution packages. Porteus is slax improved.

In fact, porteus, came from slax-remix and was born on the slax forum. Fanthom gave birth to it. Slax-remix had a very good success on the slax forum. It took care of the problems slax 6 had. The father of slax 6, Tomas had no time to provide solutions to the issues of the forum members old or new, or was simply not sensitive to the ones presented by the member of the community. In contrast, slax-remix was more what could be called produsage.

What is produsage? Do you know that we are doing PRODUSAGE in this forum?

Axel Brun is a specialist in the field of media, arts, and communication, that coined the term produsage. It means that producers also became users. For example, this authors concludes that although there are differences in philosophy and advantages between the two encyclopedias, Wikipedia would still be as good as Encyclopedia Britannica. I would state that in 2012, wikipedia is superior.

Did you know that in 2005 a scientific article in the much respected journal Nature concluded that wikipedia was about as good as a reference than Encyclopedia Britannica?

For now it seems that porteus is more efficient than slax. Lets see what slax7 will become. 8)

Ah Thanks, I booted the version with Razor instead of xfce.
But I had no idea how them differ but it works good.
me being so bad at computers failed to set the picture viewer
and the mp4 viewer but apart from that it works with saving
to the porteussave.dat and I have the åäö that I need
for my country so thanks for a neat little OS.

good that you have such active and friendly forum too.
