Porteus Kernel Builder

Post#1951 by rchase » 11 Dec 2023, 16:26

Hi fulalas,

Yes, I checked all the way back to Porteus-v1.1 and none of the initrd's contained that option in linuxrc. So, I don't know what fanthom was referring to in the post I linked. From the documentation, it looks like it wouldn't be a problem for "normal users" like me......power users may find different, it would be nice if a few tested it.

Apart from the documentation, I've seen very little and nothing strictly advising against using that option. I'll keep running with it, as it would be nice to not need another patch for the kernel to get around the boot issue. I doubt the kernel devs will be changing anything to fix it, so it's left to us.

Hi rchase,
no criminal in your logs.

Try to boot up Porteus as guest user (not is root user)
Bootup as root is not good solution.
Not bad if you remove these cheat codes:

Code: Select all

utc login=root
and add for 1st run

Code: Select all

fsck
cheat code, coz I see some errors with your FS.

I haven't seen any issues using the "udba=none" option in the linuxrc aufs mount. I tried "udba=reval", and it failed to boot, same as the unpatched kernel with stock initrd.xz. I also tried "udba=notify" which also failed to boot....unable to mount union.
I often to edit files on /mnt/live/memory/images/changes, but with udba=none it becomes a problem.
Sorry, my English is bad.

@brokenman
Long time no see!!
How are you?
Thank you for your compliments.
However, as I turned 76 this year, my health started to decline.
In particular, my mind seems to be getting foggy and my work on the PC has become slow.

I skipped fs/namespace.c coz in 6.7.2 it looks good.
No need to apply this hack >>> https://github.com/tombriden/linux/comm ... bfa4d2b0e9
for fs/namespace.c

neko, wow I wish you a long life. You are great and wise :book: :worthy:
Why do you removed aufs options from 32bit.config and 64bit.config and can you return them?

brokenman, welcome back my dear friend and guru of GNU Linux! :friends: I am glad to see you :)

@all the size of kernel 6.7 is grow up :showoff:

Thanks to neko, sfjro, peabee, roadie for support.

@Blaze
"Why do you removed aufs options from 32bit.config and 64bit.config and can you return them?"

---->
(1) aufs option is not removed.
[Kernelbuild GUI option]
"Select none expand, expand & AUFS patch, expand & OWN patch, or expand only"

"none expand"
"expand & AUFS patch"
"expand & OWN patch"
"expand only"

(2)download & expand AUFS patch is done with /usr/local/share/mkKernel/bin/getAUFS.sh

Thank you for your concern for my health.
