Porteus LXDE + FVWM (Japanese/English)

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

Hello!
Just wanted to thank you for your your efforts!
It's one of the most customizable window managers I ever used.
Default FVWM doesn't catch anoyone's eye, but very addictive once you tune it for yourself. =)

I didn't try your version yet, but I'll do it today. =)
My current setup looks like this btw
The only problem is that some of the icons are big in stalonetray...

BTW, don't you want to post a bunch of screenshots in the first post? Something to catch anyone's eye? =)
Suggestions/corrections/additions are always welcome.

Yes, screenshots would be nice, dont recommend to include a naked woman wallpaper, 15 tabs opened in the cluttered internet browser and cyrillic os fonts.

Also the youtube 360 videos dont even start on the new chrome module by neko.

Неплохой монитор, Kriss.

@Kriss
Thank you for your interest to FVWM.

1. Your desktops
are very cool.

I think that your desktops are 64 bit and 'ru' locale.

(1) 64 bit
I guessed from /lib64 in 'double commander' of right desktop.
(2) 'ru' locale
I guessed from right desktop.
(But the locale of Firefox in the left desktop is an English)

I made a 'ru' locale 64 bit ISO including 'ru' locale firefox for 'ru' users.

FVWM_ru-kernel.v3.18.16-x86_64-3.iso (191 M)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/ykmbj ... 6_64-3.iso
md5sum: 4917330dc16e6913cbe00c494a155f67 FVWM_ru-kernel.v3.18.16-x86_64-3.iso

Image
Base Theme

Image
Simple Theme

2. The issue of icon size mismatch with 'stalonetray'
is caused from my rough job.
Excuse me.

3. "don't you want to post a bunch of screenshots in the first post?"
Yes, I wanted.
But I post articles simply
without screenshots and without even 'html' decorations
on the reason of lack the skill of how to do so.

Thanks.

neko, to add a screenshot to the forum, make a screenshot with a screenshot program, upload it to the image hosting site on the internet (for example imgur), and add the url link of the hosted image to the forum post using "img" tag (tags are visible when editing a post)

also, the retroarch module would be nice cos it allows porteus users to enjoy japanese bideo games (slavs love japanese video games, and porteus is a mostly slavic distro, squatting linux if you like)

First of all, as I said, I've compiled that FVWM by myself with all patches I've found (rounded corners, button width, menu transparency and so on).
I use Porteus 3.1 (x86_64) + LXDE module from porteus 3.0 + FVWM 2.6.5 + patches
Compositor (for true transparency and shadows) - Compton
Decorations - something from this page, most likely 7th one from the top (this one)
GTK theme - Flat Studio Dark
Icons - Faenza
Clock - Conky (pieclock at the bottom layer and digital clock at the top layer)
System monitor - Conky

I can upload any of this if you want.

Yes, Porteus 64 bit.
English is my default locale and Russian (UTF-8) - secondary.

No, as I said, I have this problem too. And I didn't use your version while taking this screenshot.

I am trying your version at the moment (Japanese one) and I have 3 problems:
NTFS volumes are mounted to "/run/media/root"
snd-au8830 module is absent
You forgot to include gtk theme or engine.

Keep up the good work =)

Sorry, I didn't notice the girl until it was too late. I use a script which downloads a random wallpaper from the server. ;-P
But I disagree about cyrillic/japanese/other fonts. It's good to know how they look like.

About youtube 360 videos: I use firefox from porteus 3.1 and flash plugin and I see them in an usual video frame. Should this be different?

Actually there are 2 monitors: 1920x1080 + 1280x1024 (I think), that's why there are visual artefacts at the bottom right corner =)
Suggestions/corrections/additions are always welcome.

@Seva
Thank you for your kindness.
I tried to upload images by your procedures.
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... =60#p34597

By the referring the following the site,
I am making the 32 bit module of the 'retroarch' which you introduced to me.
But it is difficult for me.
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=4595

------------------------------------------------------------------
@Kriss
1. FVWM created by compiling
It is great!!
On the opposite, I make a FVWM ISO by gathering object files.

You wrote "I can upload any of this if you want."
If you open a new 'Porteus FVWM' thread,
everybody can get your results.
And then I will close this 'Porteus LXDE+FVWM' thread.
(I think it is much better.)

2. three problems
Thank you for your problems report.
FVWM_ru-kernel.v3.18.16-x86_64.iso was updated to FVWM_ru-kernel.v3.18.16-x86_64-2.iso.
Other 'FVWM kernel.v3.18.16 ISO's will be updated soon.

(1)NTFS volumes mounted to "/run/media/root"
a)'ntfs-3g' in my initrd is NG.
b)NTFS mount in my initrd is NG.
(ntfs-3g /dev/$x /mnt/$x -o $MOPT 2>/dev/null)
c)NTFS is mounted after boot on "/run/media/root"

Bug fix:
'ntfs-3g' in my initrd is replaced with 32 bit '001-core.xzm@/bin/ntfs-3g' of Porteus v3.1.

(2)snd-au8830 module absent
'Porteus 3.1 (kernel 3.17.4) ISO' has
000-kernel.xzm@/lib/modules/3.17.4-porteus/kernel/sound/pci/au88x0/snd-au8830.ko .
'FVWM kernel.v3.18.16 ISO' has
000-kernel.xzm@/lib/modules/3.18.16-porteus/kernel/sound/pci/au88x0/snd-au8830.ko .
Is it not ?

(3)missing 'gtk theme or engine'
The 'gtk-engines' package will be included in '003-afvwm-mini.xzm' module.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks.

@Seva
I made a 'ru' locale 64 bit XFCE ISO including Google-chrome
for 'ru' XFCE users to feel the taste of kernel v3.18.16.

XFCE_ru-kernel.v3.18.16-x86_64-3.iso (206 M)

No, compiling fvwm is very simple.
Much more simple than compiling custom kernel.
Other than that, I didn't do anything. Just took one of the themes and tuned it for myself.
And as you can see, I rarely visit these forums and don't have much time to create something new.
