Problem in boot from usb [SOLVED]

Post#1 by alexandre-samuel » 11 Apr 2014, 10:02

I'm using Porteus 64bits KDE4, and i wanted re-install. So i run the following steps:

1) I downloaded the Porteu 64bit iso file

2) In terminal, as root, I typed...

2.1) mloop /mnt/loop

2.2) cp -a /mnt//loop/* /mnt/sdb1/

2.3) cd /mnt/sdb1/boot/

2.4) sh Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com

3) Enter + Enter

Problem: When i boot from usb, the system run the OS (Operating System) that was already installed.

What is wrong?

How do i fix this?

It`s worsened!

Now, when a run the step 3, appear the following error:

Flushing filesystem buffers...

The default Porteus bootloader (extlinux) does not support
the aufs filesystem - using LILO for the installation.
.porteus_installer/installer.com: line 227: /root/Downloads/syslinux/lilo.menu: No such file or directory
.porteus_installer/installer.com: line 240: /root/Downloads/syslinux/lilo.menu: No such file or directory
sed: can't read /root/Downloads/syslinux/lilo.menu: No such file or directory

Installer detected that Porteus is being installed to the subfolder root

Press Enter to allow the installer to edit /root/Downloads/syslinux/lilo.menu
The following actions will be taken:
- the old from= cheatcode will be removed (if it exists)
- from=root cheatcode will be added
- changes=/porteus cheatcode will be replaced with changes=root/porteus

If you do not want the installer to update the bootloader config then press
Ctrl+c to exit, update the configuration file manually and run the installer
again with the -s (skip) flag like this:
./linux-installer.com -- -s

Press Enter to proceed or Ctrl+c to exit.

sed: can't read /root/Downloads/syslinux/lilo.menu: No such file or directory
sed: can't read /root/Downloads/syslinux/lilo.menu: No such file or directory
sed: can't read /root/Downloads/syslinux/lilo.menu: No such file or directory
Updated /root/Downloads/syslinux/lilo.menu

Installation failed with error code '4'.
Please ask for help on the Porteus forum: www.porteus.org/forum
and provide the information from /root/Downloads/debug.txt

Exiting now...
cat: /root/Downloads/syslinux/lilo.menu: No such file or directory

probably old changes persisted?
The default Porteus bootloader (extlinux) does not support
the aufs filesystem - using LILO for the installation.
try
you should run the installer from mounted media and not aufs :)

i would suggest reformatting and trying once again (maybe from Windows if Linux gives troubles).
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

1) I downloaded the Porteu 64bit iso file

From what type of installation did you do that? Another linux, a porteus cd?

I did the same way that's in the porteus site.

I followed this tutorial:

You do not answer to my question. Before downloading the porteus.iso, you have a computer, what is the operating system that you were in?

maybe is this (problem same sgn file version)

for example
in your flash drive installed porteus
go to /mnt/sdb1/boot/syslinux/
open porteus.cfg

change from...

Code: Select all

LABEL fresh
MENU LABEL Always Fresh
KERNEL vmlinuz
APPEND initrd=initrd.xz nomagic base_only norootcopy
TEXT HELP
    Normally Porteus saves all changes
    to the /porteus/changes/ directory
on the boot media (if writable)
    and restores them next boot.
Use this option to start a fresh
system, changes are not read from
    or written to any device
ENDTEXT
to

Code: Select all

LABEL fresh
MENU LABEL Always Fresh
KERNEL vmlinuz
APPEND initrd=initrd.xz sgnfile=porteus-usb-v3.0-x86_64.sgn nomagic base_only norootcopy
TEXT HELP
    Normally Porteus saves all changes
    to the /porteus/changes/ directory
on the boot media (if writable)
    and restores them next boot.
Use this option to start a fresh
system, changes are not read from
    or written to any device
ENDTEXT
and save porteus.cfg
now
go to porteus folder in your flashdrive and rename file porteus-v3.0-x86_64.sgn to porteus-usb-v3.0-x86_64.sgn
Reboot and test

When I re-install I boot up "always fresh" with copy2ram cheat code. I then unmount the drive using partition manager, delete it, add a new one then reboot

This is the problem. You are trying to re-install a system that is already running.
Do what freestyler suggests.

When you boot porteus (the original one) wait until the boot screen and then move down to 'awlays fresh mode' ... hit the 'TAB' key. Enter the words: copy2ram then press enter.

# All parts in bold are typed into a terminal/console
# After you boot you can then mount your new ISO:
su
toor
mloop /path/to/Porteus-LXDE-x86_64.iso

# Mount your USB drive:
mount /dev/sdxY
# Remove it's contents:
rm -rf //mnt/sdxY/*
# Copy the new ISO:
cp -a /mnt/loop/* /mnt/sdxY/
reboot

Replace sdxY with your actual USB block and partition. You can type blkid to see this information.

I tried! I don't remember very well, but the problem with aufs systemfile continued.
