Special Pendrives (Double)

I received a pendrive, from a company, which has an unusual feature, it appear as 2 different devices, 1 CD (/dev/sr0) and 1 usb-mass-storage (/dev/sdb)

anyone know if it's a special hardware or if it's possible to make it at home with a standard pendrive? it would be useful for live-equipped pendrives, since the CD part is read only

just to be clear and avoid misunderstanding, a

Code: Select all

fdisk /dev/sdb
show only the mass-storage part, they are not 2 simple partitions, they appear like 2 different devices

thank you

Is it a Sandisk with U3?

nope, Sandisk U3 one is a normal pendrive, you can easily make a normal partition table on it

I've not heard of them. Is possible but more likely to be partitioned with a function similar to U3 which would mean autorun is easier.

i have, one of those 3g usb modem, plug it n the driver for win usb modem is in the pendrive, the mass storage able to support 2 Gb Micro SD card.

It would be perfect device if we want to rule the world, burn /boot on it, frugal /slax on the mass storage then the world is ours to rule
well..... at least to fund this community anyway

yes, definitely it should be something similar to U3.
But in my case U3 tools won't recognize any device...

anyway, an U3 device with liveOS on the CD part, and data on the other would be interesting, and with the right tools and an U3 pendrive, it doesn't seems to difficult to obtain
