Casetronic C158 (ultra SFF build)...

Post#1 by fullmoonremix » 02 Aug 2016, 23:26

I just purchased (@ $100 USD) a Casetronic C158 mITX USFF (ultra small form factor) case today.

It looks like a winner!
http://www.casetronic.com/corporates/81-c158.html

It comes w/ a 60w power brick and pci riser card.
It also has a slim CD/DVD/Blueray drive slot.

It also has enough room for a half length gaming GPU.

I will probably install a Kanguru slim secure disk drive.
 (yep... there will be NO firmware bugs on this build)

Actually adding a (double slot) half lenth gaming card will require a little rear panel modification.
I'm currently in discussions with Casetronic's engineers to correct this.

I'm considering passive cooling (heat foam) on this build for the back of the motherboard.
http://www.mouser.com/_/?Keyword=heat+foam

And I'm considering Graphite cell phone thermal pad for the back of the motherboard.

I'm also considering the use of a Peltier plate ( Thermoelectric cooling ) on the back of the motherboard behind the CPU.
I think will attempt to the solve destructive condensation problem with CPU thermal pads... silicone spray and a thin fiber scouring pad.

Ok... today I picked up a wopping 64 gig of memory ($269 USD) for
the Intel Avoton octacore mITX that I intend to pick up next month.
(... when my credit card cools off)

The Gigabyte GTX 970 mini will then follow... more to come.

I have a little buyer's remorse...

Although the Casetronic C158 is 1u form factor the Logic Supply MC600 ($100 USD)
@ 1u + 1/2 is designed to fit a half length "double slot" card w/out modification
(it comes in black see... http://www.logicsupply.com/mc600g/ )
.

Ok... I just got the memory today. I'm planning to pick up the Intel Avoton octacore SoC @ the end of the month.

Update...

 I know I lamented my C158 drawbacks (buyers remorse?).
However... I got over myself. So I'm going full steam w/ a case mod.

For starters I'm have to pick up a Dremel (to remove case standoffs and the pci slot bloat).
Then I'll have to add a (400w?) Flex ATX PSU to my build list. I'll also have to abandon any hopes of an internal DVD/Blueray.
