Anything toshiba.
Laptops don't normally last me more than a year. I've had my toshiba nb550d for almost 2 years now and it has taken a royal beating.

i have HP with SUSE Enterprise Desktop installed originally on it and use it for Porteus. if you buy anything with linux preinstalled then for sure you wont have hardware/driver issues under porteus (as we used to have latest kernel available).

What model HP is it? The main thing is for me is the wireless "Wifi" and I think the rest should work.

It depends on the price you want to put on the box. Me and my young adult, Maxence is 20 and studying in engeneering, we have a ultralight laptop with a 13 inches screen (the lightest on the market), that provide us with a lot of satisfaction. We got it around $1100 canadian dollars. Toshiba is really linux compatible, even if they don't yell it. Asus on paper is better in terms of screen resolution and video driver. But you really have to pay for the difference and it is heavier.

The box is the toshiba z930:

look at this list of models which seems to be tested and approved by Novell:

my one is ProBook 4520s.
nearly 4 years old but still good - you wont feel the age if you put Porteus on it :)

I've installed Porteus on 3 netbooks....an Acer Aspire One, an Asus EeePC, and a Toshiba B300.
They all run fine, no problems with hardware recognition.....all wireless cards found and configured.....screen resolutions good at 1024x600 which is the best you get with these things.

Even KDE ran decently on them, but LXDE outpaces it so it's the main desktop.

I'm using Toshiba Satellite. If you are buying new be prepared to learn about installing Porteus to a UEFI machine. If I were you I would ask if the laptop contains the traditional BIOS or has the newer UEFI system in it's place. Wherever possible stay with the traditional BIOS. I bought UEFI so I could learn about it but it can be rather a headache and many vendors ship laptops with hybrid BIOS/UEFI which means you can switch off the UEFI and boot from a regular Porteus installed on USB.

I was thinking of one of these. If you see one that might be better please let me know. I know they are used but some are using Linux.

Thank you for using Japanese personal computer, Toshiba. :Yahoo!:
I always recommend Toshiba to my friends, my aunt and my clients when they need new one.
@Jack
They say Toshiba support is good not only by phone but also by on-line remote assistance.
If you use the computer with Win/Porteus dual boot, you can take into an account this service.

What do you think?

EDIT: I just order the "Acer-Aspire-One-NAV50-Laptop-Netbook-160GB-HD-2GB-Memory-Webcam-Linux" It will work with Windows 7 if need too, but I won't do that.

I've had 3 Acer Aspire Ones. A 725, a 722 and a KAV60. Two have had their hard drives fail within the 1st year and Acer replaced the drives free of charge. The biggest complaint I have with the KAV60 is it has a 10" screen, which IMO is too small. The other two have 11.5" screens, which IMO are perfect. :)

The KAV60 came with Windows XP, the 722 with Windows 7 and the 725 with Windows 8 and UEFI. The latter two are 64-bit machines. Porteus 3 works on all 3 but no Java sound on the KAV60.

The Asus is a 1000....the Acer is, I think, a model D250....it looks identical to the one you linked. It has XP on it as well, it's just never used with it....it should give you no problems.
