Wifi on toshiba z930 satellite: Intel Wireless-N 2230

Wifi on toshiba laptop z930 satellite would work out of the box on porteus 2.0 xfce de.

However, I was temporarily not able to have wifi access on a toshiba z930 satellite. =@ It was not a proble in term of the wifi button being at off. In fact, I could see network manager applet trying to establish the connection after booting up in porteus. The specifications for the laptop are presented in this link:
http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?s ... part=13950

root@porteus:~# lspci
...
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (rev c4)
root@porteus:~#
[/code]

I got this in the past with other laptops.

SOLUTION:
1) reboot into windows 7.
2) Activate wifi within there.
3) Reboot into porteus.
4) Wifi is now available in linux.

Does anyone understand what is going on here? Is there a logical explanation?

i would say that Linux driver is not that reliable as Windows equivalent.
please post a link to full report generated by xpsinfo so i'll check if firmware was loaded, etc..

There is no address generated by the xpsinfo command. What is the problem? What should I do?

Fanthom asked you to generate a xpsinfo full report as it may be possible that your network card is not fully recognized by Linux kernel. He just want to view if the kernel is at least recognize the network card.

I have heard only one other such strange instance back in slax when the user swore that booting into windows and enabling wifi allowed them to connect in linux too. I don't see how it could be related unless the wifi carders are working with MS and have an onboard chip (not likely).

Click below and download the firmware:
Download Centrino N-2230 firmware
Unpack it: tar xf iwlwifi*
Copy it to firmware: cp iwlwifi-*.ucode files to /lib/firmware/
Load them up: modprode -r iwlagn && modprobe iwlagn

Any luck?

It happened just one other time since I posted. I keep your suggestions for an eventual crisis.

Thanks. :D
