Epson Perfection 1270 scanner:scanning porteus 3.2

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Epson Perfection 1270 scanner:scanning porteus 3.2

Post#1 by francois » 13 Oct 2016, 16:56

This a post from blaze in the printing module section about the Epson Perfection 1270 scanner:
does not work for me.

I copied firmware esfw3e.bin from Epson Perfection 1270 to /usr/share/sane/snapscan

Opened /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf

found

Code: Select all

firmware /usr/share/sane/snapscan/your-firmwarefile.bin
replace with

Code: Select all

firmware /usr/share/sane/snapscan/esfw3e.bin
or

Code: Select all

sed -i 's|^firmware.*|firmware /usr/share/sane/snapscan/esfw3e.bin|' /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf
according to a command

Code: Select all

sane-find-scanner
I received this

Code: Select all

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0120 [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:001:002
and I added this to the end of the /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf file

Code: Select all

# Epson Perfection 1270
usb 0x04b8 0x0120
I turn off and poweron my scanner and checked status of scanner via command

Code: Select all

scanimage -L
I received this

Code: Select all

device `snapscan:libusb:001:005' is a EPSON EPSON Scanner flatbed scanner
Seems all ok.

I tried to run simple-scan, but I don't have success in it.

Code: Select all

root@blaze:~# simple-scan

(simple-scan:2675): Gdk-WARNING **: gdk_window_set_icon_list: icons too large
[snapscan] Scanner warming up - waiting 6 seconds.

** (simple-scan:2675): WARNING **: Unable to start device: Error during device I/O
Error segmentation
root@blaze:~#
Epic fail of my story :)

BTW, VueScan is working for me. But this program is shareware (not free).

Yes, I have it and all modules is active.

I've never scanned in Porteus. I decided to try to scan (sporting interest).
Are you able to print?
No, because I threw my printer in the trash :)

Can you try with Ahau's 07-printing.xzm 64bit ,I assume that this is the architecture you are using, and report:
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/current/modules/

I want to know it is my module or ahau's module. :)

It seems that you have selected the right device.

Code: Select all

oot@blaze:~# chmod a+w /dev/bus/usb/001/004
root@blaze:~#
It seems that you have the right binary file:
https://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/scanner_epson

I will try to search on the net and come back.

Here it is:
http://snapscan.sourceforge.net/
Getting it working now seems to work with xsane, xsane-extra and xsane-common:
https://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/scanner_epson
http://snapscan.sourceforge.net/

Please install xsane-extra and xsane-common from pkgs.org:
https://pkgs.org/ubuntu-16.04/ubuntu-un ... /download/
https://pkgs.org/ubuntu-16.04/ubuntu-un ... /download/

Try both xsane (xscanimage) and simple-scan.

Get the latest version of SANE from the SANE homepage. Development of the SnapScan backend is now done in SANE CVS, so there's no need to download a separate source package for the backend anymore.

To correctly install your scanner, you should
detect your scanner device
machine# tools/find-scanner
find-scanner: found scanner "AGFA SNAPSCAN 310 1.20" at device
/dev/XXXXX
if you want your scanner to be recognized easily, create a link. For SCSI scanners use:
machine# ln -s /dev/XXXXX /dev/scanner
For USB scanners use:
machine# ln -s /dev/XXXXX /dev/usbscanner
you should now scan using xscanimage
machine$ xscanimage

francois, thx for your help.
I tried different esfw3e.bin firmware with different md5sum, but I have the same story:
It does not helped me. 1st scan list with artifacts. If I scan a second list, indicator lamp of scanner lights red and scanner goes down.

Did you install xsane-extra and xsane-common from pkgs.org?

Is there any output with the xsane command?

Maybe you did read me. I repeat anyway.

Your scanner would be included in these packages.

But as these are .deb, maybe there are additional dependencies debian type.

I don't like way with manual diamonds. For the average users this is not ice.
I and users of course wanted this to work out of the box. It's better way.
