I can get a HP Officejet 5610 All-In-One but would this driver work for it?

Code: Select all

hp-officejet_5600_series.ppd.gz
It needs ink but I don't want to buy it if it won't work.

The ink or the printer? You can test whether the driver will recognize the printer without buying ink for it. And you can test the scan functionality without buying ink. If those work test black & white printing by buying just a black cartridge.

I was told to use the printer you have to buy both or it won't work. And that about $60 of ink for black and color. I will try it out first if I can if he will let me.

I need a printer now.

Your original question was would the print driver hp-officejet_5600_series.ppd.gz in Blase's print module work with the HP Officejet 5610 All-In-One to which you don't need the inks to prove whether the driver supports the printer. Which BTW I believe it will.

Brand new HP printers that I have purchased the past few years come with cartridges built in. Used printers probably don't in which case you are testing the printer not just the driver and will need cartridges.

@jack:
Printer will work with the hp-officejet_5600_series.ppd.gz, see:
https://www.linux.com/news/hp-all-one-d ... reat-linux
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/mo ... eries.html

But according to the second link, it is not sure that the scanning function will work. Suprising as it seems to work under the other linux distributions.

I have a HP wifi printer I can't get to work on Porteus. I am running the latest Cinnamon version. I installed the printer module and it find the printer right away but when I try to print nothing happens, even when I just try the test print. Has anyone out there gotten printing to work on theirs. Everything else is great and the only thing that keeps me from being able to recommend to others. I use a work around for myself by printing to hpeprint through email, but I need to figure out this printing thing. Thanks.

Yes, my HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer is wireless also and I can print and scan with it using my 3.2.2 Cinnamon 64 bit system. As for debugging your problem I think you will have to wait for Blaze to stop by. He's the printing expert.

Hi shrimper.
Did you try latest versions of 07-printing modules in Always Fresh mode?

07-printing-i586-18.01.2017.xzm
07-printing-x86_64-18.01.2017.xzm

or try this fix

Code: Select all

su
toor
chown -R root:lp /var/spool/cups
BTW, what is model of your printer?

Thanks I have tried just about everything. I can get Porteus to find the printer and it looks like it should work, but it doesn't. I have four Linux machines, running Mint and Ubuntu. Printer works great for all of them. I will keep working on it. Thanks for the input.

Try to assign a fixed network address to the printer thru your router. Then enter the address of the with ipp in print settings

Installing a printer over the network:
viewtopic.php?f=81&t=2411&p=16678#p16678
1 ) start CUPS http://localhost:631/admin/
2 ) add printer
3 ) ipp
4 ) Connection: ipp://hostname (examples: ipp://192.168.20.138 or ipp://192.168.0.107, the ip address to be found in your router administration program)
5 ) Name: The printer name (example: BROTHER-HL2170W or BROTHER-MFC-7860DW-NETWORK)
6 ) Model: The model name (example: Brother-HL-1040 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.6 (en))
7 ) Set Default options: Set Default Options (unless you are more refined than me)

All messages moved to printing-3.2 for porteus 3.2 topic.
shrimper wrote:I'm sorry, forgot. My printer is an HP 5660
hp-envy_5660_series.ppd.gz in the list of supporting printers.

What about advice with Always Fresh mode and with latest version of 07-printing module?

No way, with a fresh Porteus 3.2.2 (XFCE) and printing Module from 02.12.2016, I get also after -chown -R root:lp /var/spool/cups-, same error "can`t write temp file"...
I also deleted complete changes Directory without homedir...

Printing Module from 30.11 works flawlessly... :D

By the way, when I start fresh only with LXDE, I get in cups-frontend a different Error-Message, something like "No filter error!" or "Filter Error" ...

(Solved) Cant get parallel printer to work with printserver.

As the Topic says, i cant get it to work.

Im using a parrallel to lan TL-PS110P printserver. I can connect to the webinterface of the TL-PS110P via firefox and it has recognized my printer correct as HPL6.

http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-352.html

After setting up the printer with this tutorial (i know its for ubuntu but it looks basically the same under porteus 3.2.2 64bit xfce) i always get the error "Idle - Can't create temporary file" as printer stage when i try to print the test page.

I also tried to install the printer with the cups interface as ipp, lpd and socket, always wit the same error result: "Idle - Can't create temporary file" as printer stage when i try to print the test page.

I really don't now what to do, under windows the printer is working fine as a tcp/ip printer with the same settings from the link i posted above.

I already set the /tmp and /var/spool/cups/tmp/ folder manually over the terminal as su to 1777 (even the rights where correct before), but i still get this cant create temporary file message.

I have got the 07-printing-x86_64-02.12.2016.xzm and PyQt-4.11.4-x86_64-bundle.xzm installed.

Someone here with a solution?
