"Am I the only one experiencing this?"
no, i have seen this issue in Vbox when porteus was run without vbox-addons. i think Xdialog doesn't work right in low resolution screens (800x600). Was it your case Ahau?
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

No, I was at full resolution on my (widescreen) laptop -- I forget exactly the dimensions, 1600x1000 or so.

Happens to me, too!
Porteus is proud of the FASTEST KDE ever made.....(take akonadi, nepomuk and soprano out and you will have a decent OS).

OK, not cool. Can anyone give me an example of certain window that ALWAYS opens up skinny?

I have seen this before when using set widths ... instead of allowing the system to decide by setting 0 0 for widths. I think this is how the majority are setup for 'Settings wizard', and a few in PPM. This will need to be fixed before v1.0 ... would only take a couple of minutes.
How do i become super user?

EVERY window in porteus-settings-assistant opens this way.

The first window of Porteus-Module-Tools opens this way as well. Happened every time I opened them, in always fresh mode (this is RC3--BUT it was the first ISO you pushed out, not the one you silently updated--I got that ISO but never updated to it!)
