Porteus 32bit svn for testers

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Porteus 32bit svn for testers

Post#1 by brokenman » 15 Feb 2011, 09:37

32 bit beta testers can pickup the latest version from our svn repo. This will be an up to date version so testers can receive updates as they happen. Once you have checked out the latest revision, just change into the top directory and run 'start-tester.sh'

This menu will give you the option to produce an ISO, tarball or update to the latest revision.

Download the appropriate subversion module and activate it. To checkout just enter:
svn checkout http://porteus.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ porteus-read-only

Downloads:

Subversion for Porteus v09 (.lzm)
SHA1 Checksum: dfe65072ba7cba3b27d7a0741b111be6540e3c09

Subverion for Porteus v1.0 beta (.xzm)
SHA1 Checksum: 51b82baf96dbe81d3d8ea67317b07ed7f2d4142e

after holiday (next 10 days) should be able to join with 64bit stuff :D
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
first bug (typo) in file /boot/porteus.cfg, "Graphics VESA mode" section:
APPEND initrd=/boot/initrd.xz autoexec=telinit~4 changes=/poreus/
should be:
changes=/porteus/

If you find more typos or bugs: please report.

Cheers

brokenman,
1) About KDE Konqueror default view mode. I need in these settings (set up it by default in configure of system) - View > View Mode > Icon View. ( link: http://awebfactory.com.ar/node/91 )
add this line to ~/.kde3/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc:

Code: Select all

<ActionList name="viewmode_toolbar" />
btw I can't find ~/.kde3/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc (you can find it in kdebase Slackware Trinity package)
2) Why a Floppy Drive does not support?
Image
3) Icons of text mimetypes are not correctly displayed.
Image
and a .txt files does not open by default in kwrite.
4) Why sq4 modules does not convert to .xzm?
5) Please replace this image on this picture. Thanks.

@Fanthom
Thanks. Will update svn tomorrow with some changes.

@Blaze.

1) Regarding the default view mode
grep viewmode_toolbar /usr/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc
<ActionList name="viewmode_toolbar" />

It already exists there. I prefer the detailed view than icon view for default. User only needs to go view/icon view and then save the profile. If you think most users will prefer icon view then i will create a default profile for it, but there needs to be more people ask for it.

2) Why a Floppy Drive does not support?
As i said earlier i am thinking of removing floppy support. You rarely see a machine with a floppy drive any more. Perhaps more people can comment on if the floppy should be removed.

3) Mimetypes for test files
As you can see here it looks fine for me. Can anyone else confirm mimetypes for text files?
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?icdsxzpcyomjos3

4) Why sq4 modules does not convert to .xzm?
Did you download from svn? Not only do lzm modules convert to xzm, you can simply double click on one and it will auto convert.

5) Please replace this image on this picture. Thanks.
We will have a vote for which splash most people want.

Known issues:

Popups for kmix and xrandrtray occur when you login as guest. If anyone has an idea let me know.

Trying to logout after using both root and guest accounts sometimes results in 'no run levels left' message.

Shutdown sometimes stalls and power button needs pressing

Booting into text mode as guest won't start X

@brokenman
download to root seems ok but when trying to download to usb no joy ( my usb is NTFS i'm afraid ) got the same problem with downloading mp3 files.

5 i'll leave it to X-factor, he's into that sort of thing.

i'm more concern with wide accept because of ease of use for windoze convert :D

Did you download from svn?
Yes i try a svn version.

I think too, but will need to remove a icon of Floppy Drive.
2.

Code: Select all

grep viewmode_toolbar /usr/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc
<ActionList name="viewmode_toolbar" />

It already exists there.
I think this file konqueror.rc should be at ~/.kde3/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc

Code: Select all

cp /usr/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc ~/.kde3/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc

Will need to make a poll about it.
4. Not only do lzm modules convert to xzm, you can simply double click on one and it will auto convert.
Yes double click is works, but i mean right click > Convet sq3 (sq3 - why? This is module in sq4) module to .xzm

I have I think this file konqueror.rc should be at ~/.kde3/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc
Yes plus a few other files to. I have made icon view default. Also surprise background for KDE.

I will remove floppy icon. Havn't looked at how yet.

We decided to drop support for sq3 files. Perhaps i could add it back in just for Porteus v1.0 (and rmove for next version).

brokenman, the links you provided in the first post don't link to the files they reference. The .lzm link goes to an .xzm file (that doesn't appear to be subversion), and the .xzm link goes to a subversion lzm that worked for me in v1-alpha.
Please take a look at our online documentation, here. Suggestions are welcome!

beny, do you have the nvidia driver running for Porteus v09 32-bit or v1 alpha (before SVN)?

If so, you just need to boot into the new SVN version and double click on the nvidia driver lzm, and click yes to convert it to xzm.
Please take a look at our online documentation, here. Suggestions are welcome!

@ Benny ... 1 hour 25 minutes is too long for you to wait? .... Sorry, i have to work and can't spend all day here waiting to answer questions for you.

As clearly stated the alpha release is ONLY for thorough testing of the new KDE3 trinity environment.
If you havn't already thrown 32bit in the trash take Ahau's advice and convert your .lzm module.

I have some other ideas for you to try ... but i guess you have given up.

If you still want to, please give me the output of:

Code: Select all

file /usr/src/linux
file /lib/modules/2.6.38-rc3-porteus/build
file /lib/modules/2.6.38-rc3-porteus/source
The reason you can't compile is because it requires the FULL headers source which is too big to include with porteus. That's why we include video driver modules at the same time ISO is released.
