Translations

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Translations

Post#1 by brokenman » 07 Jan 2014, 15:16

I am in the process of modifying a lot of the porteus scripts to support internationalization. This means the community has the opportunity to help by translating the scripts.

The first script is a short one (Language selection tool) and I have set up an online system for you to use for translating. Just send me your email address via PM and I will send the link. If you language is not already present just request it to be added.

@brokenman

"send me your email address via PM"

I would like to use Japanese Language version.
So, would you tell me how to send my e-mail address to you.
(What is the "PM" address ?)
I have already registered my e-mail address in Porteus forum site.

I checked the difference of the gtk-language-selection-tool in
http://ponce.cc/porteus/i486/testing/pa ... tion-Tool/
and one of v3.0-rc1.
I think that both version are not multilanguage.

Thanks for your help tome.

Neko, you should receive an email with the URL where you can translate. PPM for v3.0 will be the same as v2.1. We are looking at managing packages in a different way at the moment. This will mean rewriting PPM with gettext support.

PS: To see your PM (private messages) you can click at the top left of the screen where it says (1 new message).

@ everyone. Still many languages left to translate to. Russian, french and italian being the most important. Send me a PM or email with your email address and the language you want to translate to. Thanks in advance.

@tome

I sent a "Thank you" mail to you via "PM".

Thank you for your kindness.

@brokenman

I received the email that explains how to start contributing to Language Selection Tool.
I accessed POEditor web site.
(I understood that 'activate' means 'read only').
Then I did logout and I could do login by informed informations.

When you will be ready to open the sources that are multi language,
I will get/receive the sources and add Japanese POs.
I am waiting for your great job result.

Thank you.

Thanks phhpro. I havn't finished converting any other scripts to support gettext as yet. All of this is aiming at the v3.1 release so we have a bit of time. What you've done so far is great. Thanks.

I have an automated system to create these .po files that even generates a google translation for each string but as you can imagine, these translations often require human care. For the next script I will upload with the google translations intact and translators can just correct where necessary.

Neko are you asking for the source code (script) or just the .po file?

@brokenman

"Are you asking for the source code (script) or just the .po file?"

I am asking for just the .po file

#==========================================================
I think that the meaning of message is depending on the context where the message is issued.
The meaning of message is understood, and then can be translated to other language.

The context is understood by reading the source code or running the program.
Sometimes the reading a source code is a very heavy job and some long time is needed.
And it may be not easy that all messages of a program are gotten by running the program.

It is important to release a new version timely.

I think that it is better to make a message quality up depending on step by step.
1. The .po is opened for a contributor.
2. It is checked and modified by a native contributor.
3. Release
4. If some messages are not just fit, it are corrected for next release.

Thank you

@Neko the email i sent contains a link to an online .po editor. The .po file was uploaded and you can edit it online (perhaps even download it). I am happy to send you the file if you prefer to edit it on your computer locally.

@phhpro

>"you have a Japanese locale installed to take care of non-latin?"
============================
Yes, I have a Japanese locale.

>"Most other ... non-latin characters ... only seeing ..."
============================
I think that a Japanese locale has some issues for Porteus.

The one of Porteus characteristic is small.

But the Japanese locale must have it's non-latin fonts and input method(SCIM-ANTHY).
That makes Porteus bigger.

Therefor I have change the Japanese font offered by Porteus to "M+1P+IPAG.ttf" 2M.
(compressed "font_ja.xzm" 1.1M)
And I have removed other than Japanese items from SCIM.
("input_ja-x86_64.xzm" 6.5M / "input_ja.xzm" 6.4M)
These are offered with including in ISOs of "lxde_fvwm".

============================
I have a poor English.
Excuse me for my irrelevant response.

Thanks.
